i've noticed that some people with dashes and periods and stuff in their usernames can't really be pinged. so maybe for those names, there could be an option where you put like instead of "@ name-dinosaur", and accidentally pinging "name," it could go like "@ (name-dinosaur)" so you're assured to get "name-dinosaur" not "name" by accident. does that make any sense? x:

That makes sense and it would take care of the accidental ping problem. :)

I've seen some people with dots and dashes in their usernames say that pinging them works if you replace the characters with underscores.

So if I were to ping my bf, I'd ping Obi_Wan and not Obi-Wan (which is his actual username) :)

I think it does. I think [user=carmen.] has a note in her signature saying that she can be pinged with Carmen_ :)

replacing the character with an _ works. and i prefer the @ way of pinging.
