I've been terrible about donating this year, mainly because I sadly don't have money to give, but today I donated a dollar to this. It isn't much but it's all I could afford at the moment. I guess I felt compelled to donate because almost two years ago my mom lost her dog to the same cancer and it left a huge hole in our family. I know people say that they are just animals and losing a person is harder but to me and my family Princess was everything. I honestly wish I could donate more and honestly if I had the money I would donate to as many charities as I could. I guess I just want to know if you guys have ever felt compelled to donate for a certain reason or if you just donate to donate.

I always feel compelled to donate. I can't just let others suffer (whether it be due to health reasons or injustice) and not do anything about it. The problem is, I don't have much money to begin with so it limits me.
I donated my paycheck to support my fellow Filipinos who were hit by the typhoon though. I also am a member of HRC and donate $20 a month to that. I also frequently visit a somewhat nearby "Feed My Starving Children" location with my friends and donate my time there. We make meals as a group that are later sent to people from third-world countries.
Well, money-wise I haven't done much (really, I can't do much). All I've done is donate a few jugs of bleach and some cat toys to the local animal shelter and volunteer there but that's about it. I hope to donate blood soon and donate cash to various causes when I get a job.
We don't have much ourselves but we donate whenever we can. Always drop spare change in buckets when I have it. And I did one of the toy-drive trees this year, my daughter asked what it was when we passed it so we picked a little girl who was 3 who needed warm clothes and liked Minnie Mouse.
I participate in the $5 donation days at my job. The causes are usually things like local children who are terminally ill. Administration also allows the staff to break the dress code and wear jeans to work if you choose to give on that day.
I really like programs that match charitable gifts. Those companies are awesome.

I don't have spare money, but I have taken food to people that are on corners for money. I also baby sat all night for my neighbor's 2 kids, so she could see her friends before she moves out of state. I have someone who lives in my house rent free, & his kids come every other weekend, he is just a friend. Before we moved here, my daughter's friend lived with us, because her parents were interfering with her getting her senior project done. So most of my charity is close to home, but at least I know that these people REALLY NEED my help....
I'm poor and jobless myself, so basically the only charity I've done is acting nice toward everyone. I'd love to donate blood, but last I checked I didn't weigh enough. :/
I always wish I could donate but I rarely can afford it. I do volunteer with a Pit Bull Rescue group and I donate blood regularly. I'm also a organ and bone marrow donor as well.
I don't go out of my way to donate to charity unfortunately. . I guess like when I go to a restaurant or shop and they ask me if I want to donate a dollar towards something I will do it. it just never crosses my mind tbh I do volunteer my time for an animal shelter though, I suppose that counts
I'm not too charitable, I guess. I work at Goodwill, but I get paid for that. If I have random stuff/clothes laying around I'll donate them at work. We also had a thing through work where it automatically donates money from our paycheck to the United Way. I think I chose the smallest amount, though.
I never carry cash, so I always feel awkward around the salvation army bell ringers. I feel like I want to give, but I only use my debit card to buy stuff.
I have a small sum taken directly from my bank balance monthly to go towards my local children's hospital. I've also been volunteering for their annual telethon for several years now.
Back when I used to work at a pet store, I chose to have some of my pay docked and donated to a homeless animal foundation (I no longer donate since I quit, but if/when I visit my old work I will donate to them then).
And, every year I fund-raise and participate in two charity walks; one for MS in the spring, and another for leukemia and lymphoma in the fall.
It isn't much, but I do what I can. =)
I would like to say I am a charitable person. I just love to help out and brings a smile on my face and it honestly helps with my depression. I recently donated 5 BAGS of boys clothes to a single mom with 2 boys and 1 girl. Her two boys absolutely LOVED the clothes they got. They were some nice and new or gently used clothes that my brother outgrew and barely worn themselves. They were just so so so happy and they were dancing around and walking like they were a million bucks with my brother's clothes. It was honestly one of my happier moments in life.
I also give rides to friends and regularly donate to an animal rescue group. I don't have much, but I just like to give my time to people or pets that really need it. :)
Oh, and thanks for the link! I donated to the Logan fundraiser. With myself having two kitties, I couldn't help but to help out another kitty lover.
I never really go out of my way to donate to charities, tbh... I like to give to animal foundations if I see a box or jar up somewhere though. I do remember a day that I gave a lady some money, she was on the corner with the sign saying she needed money to get up to the hospital out in the city, so I gave her the change I had leftover from lunch. She cried and hugged me, so I sat with her for a while and talked. It may not seem like much, but I like to think it makes at least some difference. It makes me feel bad how many times these people get passed by and ignored. I wanted to do one of the toy drive trees this year, but by the time I had money to spare, all of them were picked other than high ticket items (bikes and stuff like that) so I couldn't afford it. :/
i dont have money right now but i have been trying to help my roommates parents out around the house
That's my kitty you donated a dollar to! And early on, too! Thank youuu!
So sorry to hear about your mom's dog. Poor Princess. DX But Logan and I really appreciate all the generosity the Subetan people have shown. :)
As to the question, I've never been in a situation where I've had money to spare for charities. But if I DID, I would undoubtedly spend it on animal ones.
