if you have /just/ fed them you need to wait a bit, otherwise i think it's an unfixed bug a lot of people seemed to be having earlier not sure if it's fixed already

I have this problem, too, and I am fairly certain my pet is not in a battle. I put him in the hotel a few days ago...
