It is a bit frustrating having to copy down outfits in Notepad or Wordpad to look back on if I feel like changing to an outfit that I could not save.

That would be great!!! I also screenshot my avatars so I can use them, but then I have to make the outfit again without knowing what things are called.

Why not write them down as well? Name all the outfits and then write down the items used and in their order.
