This Thread has some good info on a standard set for different levels of battling, although it does depend on your definition of cheap. For right now, a Malevolent Grimfruit is the best out there if you're a beginner, so you might want to start with that.

Try it increases your strength each time you hit by around 30 that plus is a pretty solid combination for cheap weapons.

wow, Shear Sword is AMAZING for the price. I'm surprised noone pointed that out before.

It's a genetech combo, so it's probably going to stay fairly stable in price as well. Not half bad in beginner sets...
