Fans of the show are now boycotting A&E because "all he did was express his opinion". Well, here's my opinion: it's almost 2014, not 1914. Get over it because there are much bigger issues in the world than homosexuality. If you're a real Christian, you would skip the part that says gay sex is a sin and go to where it says to love thy neighbor and all that good stuff. And if you get stuck on gay sex being a sin, just remember there are other things that are seen as sins in the bible as well. I'm guessing his wife has gone to church while she is on her period. That's a sin. Eat bacon/pork/shellfish? That's a sin. Wearing mixed fabrics? Sin. So don't fucking pick and choose what parts of the bible to follow. If you re going to tightly follow the bible, than follow the whole thing.
But here's the most important thing: Christians believe Jesus died for the forgiveness their sins. So all that crap doesn't matter because their sins have been forgiven. So yeah, I agree with A&E's decision. Like I said, it's almost 2014. Focus on the important stuff, like bringing our troops home from Afghanistan, creating jobs, helping those who are suffering, because that's what Jesus would want. Remember Jesus? He is the cool guy who Christianity is based upon. And he probably hung out with some gay people too.
takes a deep breath So, post your thoughts.
I actually never even watched this show and didn't really know much about it until today when I heard this story, so honestly it doesn't bother me at all what happened to him. I won't be boycotting A&E because the good shows I used to watch aren't on there anymore, so I don't watch it, anyway.
Yes, I believe people should be able to voice their opinions, however, have we not learned that, sometimes, you should keep those comments to yourself (or, at least, just don't tell it to the world)? How many people have we seen fired or whatever from jobs because of something they said somewhere in public, be it Facebook, youtube or on t.v. I'm sure this man gets plenty of off-screen time to rant and rave about whatever he likes or dislikes. On a t.v. show, that is watched by so many, is just not one of those times. I feel like common sense would tell you that.
I haven't watched the show either, mainly because it doesn't interest me. I have enough rednecks/hicks in my life, I don't need to watch a tv show about them. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but when you have such a huge following like these guys do, opinions like his can be dangerous. I'm just tired of seeing hateful comments about things that don't even matter. Opinions like his are why so many gay kids kill themselves. I'm straight but I have a lot of friends who are LGBT and I will always stand by them.
whaaat I'm pretty sure guys have anal sex with women too lmao. I'm surprised A&E took action like this but I'm glad they did. famous people need to be reprimanded for this crap every once in awhile to remind the general public that it's not ok to think like this.
Same here. I have a lot of LGBT friends (in fact, I only have one straight friend) and it always hurts me to hear anything bad said about them. It's honestly no one's business what someone does, but, of course, people have to make it their business for whatever reason. This kind of thing always brings me back to the first experience I ever had with anyone I knew was gay. This boy, who was my sister's friend, was bullied and just treated like crap so much, that he killed himself. Someone I knew and someone who I had seen almost every day for years of my life up until then. It confused me so much then, because I didn't get it. When I grew up and really got it, it sickened and devastated me. I cried for days because I didn't see why him being gay was bad. At least, not so bad to treat someone that way (I did used to think it was a little bad because ... church). I didn't get why it made anyone treat him the way they did, especially when I remember him being so nice and so caring. I hate when people make comments like the one this guy made, or any bad comment at all, because I know people kill themselves everyday over this kind of thing. These little comments that people make, could be the thing that just carries someone over the edge one day and I'm not okay with that. I'm just not.
Oh, man, I got all kinds of emotional there (what I wrote probably barely made sense because it's just a jumble of thoughts and feelings, lol). I was trying to avoid all that in my first post, but this really is an issue that gets my emotions up.
I'm really sorry to hear that. My heart broke just reading it. I don't know anyone who has committed suicide, so I won't say, "I know how you feel" because I don't. All I can do is give my support to those who are being bullied because of it (and other reasons). This whole thing with this guy really hit a nerve with me because I've had enough of this crap. It's well past time that people leave it alone.
Thank you and just knowing that you feel the way you do is comforting. No one deserves to be bullied about anything to the point of suicide or even just feeling totally inferior. I wish bullying and intolerance would just disappear. All this stuff is just hindering joy, love, and life.
I was bullied when I was younger because I was an easy target. It's the worst feeling in the world when you know there's little you can do. I wish it would go away as well. I've had enough of the crap.
People complaining because he "has the right to state his opinion" are misguided. He certainly does have the right to state his opinion, but nowhere does it say he has the right to do so consequence free. The government isn't allowed to lock him up for it, but that's about it. Otherwise, if people don't like what he says they have the right to fire him, refuse to speak/listen to him, and so forth. People also have the right to support his bigoted BS, but not on the basis of free speech.

Someone on Duck Dynasty made homophobic and racial comments? I for one am shocked! :P

It's things like this that make you weed out your Facebook friends lmao. I've seen quite a few idiots liking and sharing how wrong it is because "free speech!" and "the bible!!" UGH Good for A&E. I wish this happened more often.
Good grief, do not look at the comments.
He must be blind because my grandmother was raised in Louisiana in the 1920's and 1930's when lynching was popular. The stuff she saw scarred her for life.
I'm really tempted too but a lot of the people who are posting are family and good friends. It wouldn't be worth removing them because it would just create a lot more drama. I'm just hiding the crap as a I scroll.
And I learned a long time ago to stay away from comments on new's articles. Most of the people who gather are the scum of the earth.
There is a "Boycott A&E TV" page that's just pushing him as a hero and "how dare they do this because of one fag who cried"
I have a family member (who I barely know anyways) who made a status as follows:
"A&E actions pretty much sums up where we are in the united states. You want to speak against sin, they take your rights. You speak for sin, they applaud you. We have to stand together to be able to keep our rights. Other religions have more rights than Christianity when we are suppose to be founded on equality. Well regardless , I serve a God greater than this world and I have victory in Jesus. Every knee will bow and tongue will confess that Jesus is Lord."
Yes, we as Americans are allowed free speech and the right to our differing opinions, but when you outwardly attack a race of people and compare them to Nazis just for being born under that race, theres a problem. When you cast judgement on someone who lives their life differently than you, theres a problem. You're not holier than thou if you don't practice what you're preaching. One of his friends kept arguing with me and saying it was immature of me to call him a bigoted jerk, but seemingly forgot that Phil Robertson was bashing gays and Islamic people. Theres a sermon from 2010 that Phil did that goes deeper into his bashing of homosexuals. IF YOU DON'T LIKE WHAT SOMEONE DOES IN THE PRIVACY OF THEIR HOME, GET YOUR NOSE OUT OF THEIR BUSINESS.
Hate is still hate with a bible in your hand.

[flower=Cavity]Definitely not surprising that one of them said things like that. What IS pleasantly surprising is that A+E took him off the show for it pretty much immediately. They didn't even wait for backlash, they did it instantly.
I was being facetious but it's hard to tell only through text. The situation is about some hick who got famous off a reality tv show about hunting in swamps right? I'd be more surprised if he wasn't making ignorant comments about others hahaha.
A&E is a business and brand first and foremost so it was smart of them to nip this in the bud. Food Network didn't put up with Paula Deen and I would think their target advertising and viewing demographics would be more conservative than A&E's.

I knew you were being sarcastic lol
Duck Dynasty is about a bunch of rednecks, from what I've read their viewers are older and very conservative. Which is why they're starting some petition to put the guy back on air because freedom of speech or some shit. Sorry, but freedom of speech doesn't protect you from getting your ass fired if you're an ignorant shit. A+E has said they're very pro LGBT rights and that's why they cut him off quick
WORD.
I had to go hunt this down, but you could always throw this one at your super religious family member...
I mean, just throwing it out there, if you're on the side that Sarah Palin is backing, you're on the wrong side.
That post is gold though. I wish posting that would sway them to see they're being ridiculous but I already know it won't :/

A local radio station put this story on FB and among the many Pennsyl-tucky replies of "HE HAS A RIGHT TO STATE HIS OPINION", there was this gem: "He has the right to an opinion but a&e is a private company. So they have the right to suspend people if they feel they have acted in a way that doesn't reflect the network. He wasn't arrested. He exercised his free speech and dealt with the consequences. Free speech doesn't remove consequences it just keeps you out of jail."
I thought it was pretty well-said.
