I'm trying to find a website that I can look up interesting news from New York- just the state not the city- and look back to say September 1st or so for the news then... anyone have any helpful advice? :)

I'm sorry I have no idea for the east coast but trying using google and google search your area code or something or try yahoo answers. or type in the name of the news station for your area. here I would search King 5 news for example. google search yours. :)

Definitely do what said and look up the website for your news station. They probably have many articles that you can look at c:

Look up the local news stations on Google, also try to find the websites for newspapers in the area. You may also want to see if your library has online databases, since you can usually get some newspaper archive access through those. :)

I always get my news on Yahoo. xD Try Google, I'm sure you'll find something interesting there.
