Alright, I haven't battled this guy before, but I have battled him twice and I wanted to know if you have to beat him to get the plushie.

You can only get it from the DP, not from battling him.

What? that makes no sense. My Harvester has gotten it twice, I can even get a screen cap.

My pets have battled him and they've gotten the plushie under their picture during battle many times. I believe it's just a sign that your pet may be 'cursed' during battle and is getting extra damage done to it until the end.

I wondered the same thing when I battled him. It just means your pet has been cursed. When you battle the Amazon opponent she uses a blessing on herself and it shows up as

battled him twice, had the plushie under my pet and it stayed there before I was defeated.
