Normally, last I heard, custom pet overlay pets who won the Pet Spotlight were NOT to have the overlay displayed on the Subeta main page (login page). However, I noticed that the pet who won the Spotlight today DID have the overlay displayed on the main page (login page).

Has the site policy on custom overlay pet wins been changed, or is it a glitch?

Several other pets with custom overlays have won and their overlays were all displayed. In fact, if I remember correctly, one of them won just shortly after this was implemented.

[edit] In fact, now that I think about it, they're labeled as "custom [color] [pet]" because of a suggestion thread asking for some kind of marker when they win the spotlight, so I'm pretty sure they're intended to be displayed on the news page.

When you buy the new custom overlay feature it displays on the news page, it's one of the biggest features :)

I'm talking about the main Subeta page, not the News page. I.e. what's visible to non members. Or when one logs out of the site.

Typo, sorry. The thread was about them displaying on the main page without a note that those pets don't actually exist as official site pets. So yes, I believe it's intentional and I'm pretty sure they have always been like that.

NP, but I didn't see any such thread...but I do know for a fact they always haven't been like that. For example, it was stated in the original Custom Overlays comments section of the news posting that CO's would NOT appear on the main Subeta website page, which now doesn't appear to be true. The change seems to be a new one, if it's a change at all, I'm not sure since there seems there was never an announcement about it on the News.

I did some digging. This is the original suggestion thread and according to this post, the feature was implemented in early November.

You're not making any sense, there was never any posts or news posts, ever, as far as I can tell about Custom Overlays being on the main Subeta page. Ever. On top of that there is absolutely no indication that the overlay, is indeed a Custom Overlay, and NOT an actual pet to those that aren't members.

That's because when the user either clicks on the pet, they are going to see the notice saying it's a custom overlay, or they click on the news and will see the news post that says it's a custom pet.

There hasn't been any official announcement of it, as far as I have seen. The actual announcement doesn't state the pet species info (since that's included on the news post) so that's probably why it hasn't been changed.

Since they were released in late July, it's been overtly specified that it was, to quote, "...an overlay for your pet that you want to display around the entire site..."

What part of that would've excluded the main page in the first place? It anything, I think it was more of a failing on their behalf NOT to be posting the user submitted image, if they hadn't, been, because altering it for literally the entire site is the exact function of the feature, one that people are paying money for.

It's an issue because a lot of members took issue with the fact that displaying an overlay on the main site, to non-members, could "trick" people into thinking they can get that pet, when it's a custom overlay. So it could be considered false advertising, especially if the pet is NOT listed as a "custom overlay pet". However, that doesn't answer my question, I want to know WHY the site suddenly changed the policy, when before it did NOT host custom overlays on the main page to non-members.

I doubt any user knows, and I doubt this is the kind of information you can find out via ticket.
