Also is there a list of stat boosting items? I'm a total newbie to battling so I have no idea where to begin looking. xD

Your pet doesn't have enough alchemy points for the scroll to be taught. Alchemy points are obtained by reading a book to your pet upon obtaining an amount of intelligence that is a multiple of 16.
