I was reading books to my pet, when after it said this

Your pet has gained an alchemy point!
What does this mean and where is it used if at all?? Is it good to have a lot of them?

1 alchemy point is awarded for every 16 books your pet reads. Alchemy points are used to teach your pet scrolls in Battle Collesium.
