I bought one for a friend as I read that it's a great battle weapon. When I was sending it to him there was an option that said "Release..." (can't remember the rest of it). What's that all about? O_o

It gives you the Cursed Effigy, the Tormented challenger

It releases a battle opponent, Effigy the Tormented. Very Hard opponent, but if you beat him, you get an achievement and the Lantern back.
