How do i put the number of notification on the event bar, like the news page showed?

It should be automatic? Next to the word 'events' there should be a number with the amount of events you currently have.

Mine just shows a little number right under dashboard

Mine was showing that for the longest time and then it finally changed to the preview pic I don't think there's really anything you can do but wait for it to auto-update :P

do a hard refresh...Ctrl+F5 several times. It was a bit messed up for me in the beginning but when I did that (pressed Ctrl+F5) it fixed itself
