Wardrobe Beta (Now on Subeta!) + Project Kumos Update
Hey folks! A few weeks ago I would have told you that making real changes to the main Subeta site was basically impossible. The codebase is old, the infrastructure was brittle, and Project Kumos existed specifically because I needed somewhere clean to build new things. The wardrobe has lived off-site for over a decade now because of how complex it is. Ten-plus years! That's how long it's been since the wardrobe was actually on subeta.net.
Well, after a couple weeks of pretty intense work, I've gotten the main site to a place where I can make changes again in a way that hasn't been possible in a very long time. Years.
Which means: I'm sunsetting Project Kumos. Before anyone panics, here's what that actually looks like. The features from Kumos are coming here, to subeta.net, where they should have been all along. Layout changes are probably done at this point (they worked well! so a lot of that can just be picked up and moved), and if anything, we'll put options behind a setting so you can choose what works for you.
And the first big proof of that?
The Wardrobe Beta Is Live on Subeta
The wardrobe is home. After living off-site for more than 10 years, I shut it down on Kumos and moved the whole thing over to subeta.net. It went smoothly, which is a good sign for everything else.

If you were in the Kumos wardrobe beta, this is the same wardrobe, just in the right place now. If you missed it the first time, here's what you're getting:
Transforming Items - Items that can transform show up with a special icon, and you can pick any of the wearable forms it transforms into. No more needing the entire set just to wear the one piece you actually wanted.
Color Organization - A ton of items now have color tags so you can sort and filter by color. Fair warning: some items that are entirely black or white might be a little wonky still. Working on it.
Smart Drawers - Create custom drawers with filters. Want to see all purple items in the bottom or chest layers? Done. Mix and match however you want.
Effects - You can layer up to 3 special effect layers that can be solid colors or gradients (great for backgrounds), and then play with transparency and blend modes. If you've ever messed with Photoshop layer blend modes, you know how wild this can get. Entirely new looks from items you already own.
Contests - They work here! That's the update. They just work. 🎉
Shopping - There's a shopping tab built right into the wardrobe with the Cash Shop Boutique, Costume Trunks, and more. No more tabbing back and forth.
What's Next
I think we're weeks away from having everything back on one site. The wardrobe was the big one, and it's here. The rest of the Kumos features are following, and once that's done, new features and updates are going to come a lot more regularly. Bug fixes too.
Speaking of which: I need your help. If you run into problems, post in Problems & Bugs. If you have ideas for new stuff or improvements, hit up Suggestions & Ideas.
One thing I'm especially interested in: ways we could reuse older assets. We have years and years of art from plots, events, old features. If there's something you remember from way back that you think deserves a second life, or a cool way to repurpose things that are just sitting in the archives, I want to hear about it. That kind of stuff is exactly what gets me excited about building here again.

Hate to say it but the wardrobe link you posted leads to a blank page for me. D: Maybe it just takes several seconds to load, but looks blank for a while first? It worked when I returned to the tab.

I actually like the quests on Kumos and the quests on Legacy. To have them both is an incentive to do more quests for a user like myself who doesn't quest much at all. Both sets of quests have their appeal. I like the tiered system and CSC rewards on Kumos but I also like the Morty Cards for the quests on Legacy.
Are we gonna get some of the old games back, like Tubular Tiles? Or even new games or bigger payouts on the current games?
I know that folks have gotten used to having two sets of quests, I promise I won't shut them off on Kumos until I've created more quests over here (increased the total number) and added the CSC earning mechanic.

What about the compost heap that the Recycle Beast won't let anyone enter? Is that coming to Legacy as well?
Kinda felt that is what was gonna happen when you were able to actually change the code on subeta net so not surprised. Running two sites side by side like that has GOT to be a drag on resources. I shan't look at it as losing Kumos- I shall look at it as having Beta'd new stuff to put here!
So long as some of the streamlined features like "you have this in your vault" for quests comes on over, I am content. Thanks for all the hard work, glad you can migrate it here!

idk that we need more quests here XD At least I don't /dead from all the quests. Though I shan't squawk if there are more of course, it's all good. Hopefully, the new folk will not ask for candles or lamps
I have to admit I liked the extra quests on Kumos because of the extra wizard tokens and CSC and extra items for doing quests but the Legacy site has always been my favorite. I also don't like the new way we have to send gifts to people. Can we go back to the old way please?

I just used the link and button there to see the new wardrobe on Subeta. Unfortunately I'm having some of the weird huge black arrows, a looking glass etc. Not as bad as on Kumos, but still... A naked body and limbs underneath. Then 120 items (with overlapping item names), which, I believe, are not all in my wardrobe (Kumos cookies?), then the items I'm currently wearing with a lot of space inbetween underneath each other. Not usable. Basically the same errors that Kumos gives on my browser. It's unusable. "Kumos Wardrobe Active You've opted in to the Kumos wardrobe! Your avatar is now managed there, so you can't make changes from this old wardrobe." Yet, the first page said, I could always go back to the other version! How? Help, please! lol Can anybody give me the old address?
The only quests I have done on kumos is wizard for the tokens. But I gave up when he started asking for items 30-300+K each and didn't give any tokens. Hope that improves.

YAY!! Bringing it all back home. This is great amazing news. And Yes thank you for the clarification it is not an aprils fools joke! I am legit so stoked!
Whoah this is big and exciting news! One thing I'm a bit worried about is does this mean anything about the longevity of Subeta? I thought the reason why Kumos was necessary is because Legacy was not sustainable and too expensive, and going to affect how long the site could be up for. Has that changed with all the recent uplifting of Legacy?

definitely said, I could always go back! What do I need to do? I cannot use this wardrobe like all of Kumos. By now I should know better than to try out changed things :-(
Layout changes? Please no more!!! I hate most of them, everything still looks broken or crowded or confusing and doesn't fit together. So the option to toggle would definitely be welcome, actually mandatory, otherwise we could have just as well moved to KUmos :-(.
