okay woes is a bit of an overreaction DFGHJKL but man between the idea of replacing a laptop that's been with me 11 years and the fact there's just so many options out there..... yeah it's kinda overhwelming lol (; ω ; ) had a huge scare this morning when my baby's fan just stopped spinning altogether but i thankfully resuscitated it
what are everyone's favourite laptop brands/models? i don't need anything particularly powerful (my lenovo z50 does everything i need it to do) but since i'm in the market for a new laptop........ might as well get one that can play games that came out less than a decade ago lmao
my one (perhaps odd) specification though is that i don't buy from american companies, so hp, dell, etc. are out of the question. i'd love to support european businesses but as far as laptops go the choice is very limited, this one from slimbook looks quite appealing but there comes my second issue: for as much as i want to switch to linux 100% i can't because i need clip studio paint which doesn't run on linux ;;
other things
any suggestions? (´。• ᵕ •。`)
I don't have any suggestions, but I wish you luck in your quest!
thanks!! q v q i might honestly just bite the bullet, try to get csp running on linux mint (i've seen one person who managed to do it like 2 years ago so it's gotta be possible......), and go for a slimbook with linux and never look at windows again if i can help it lol
I hope it turns out. I've certainly heard a lot about people switching over to Linux what with Microsoft's decisions as of late.
Oof, I feel you. I had to buy a new laptop recently after mine died suddenly. x_x I found this subreddit helpful! https://www.reddit.com/r/SuggestALaptop/
I ended up getting a budget refurbed Acer that was recommended on the pinned ultimate laptop buying guide, and it's worked well enough for what I need it to. But you can either search to see if someone else has posted anything similar, or ask yourself! From a brief glance it also looks like they have suggestions for other countries, too.
Good luck! :D
oo thanks i'll check it out! i haven't used reddit in years (at one point i used lemmy a lot but the instance i was on died rip) but i'll look around to see if anyone suggested anything similar to what i'm looking for :>
For your requirements, you’ve actually got a really nice direction already. Since you don’t want American brands and still need Windows (for Clip Studio Paint), here are some solid options you might like:
Lenovo Their ThinkPad series is super sturdy, like built for business use Great keyboards, good upgradeability on some models Not the flashiest, but VERY reliable and durable
ASUS Really nice balance of performance + design ZenBook = lighter, premium feel, good screens TUF series = more durable, better for gaming, slightly bulky
Acer More budget-friendly but still decent Swift series for light + battery Nitro series if you want casual gaming
MSI Good if you want something more gaming-capable Usually stronger specs, but battery might not be amazing
About your specific needs: Screen quality → look for IPS or OLED, at least 100% sRGB if possible Battery life → ultrabooks (ZenBook, Swift) are best here Sturdiness → ThinkPad or ASUS TUF are probably your safest bets Upgradability → ThinkPads are usually the easiest to open and upgrade
If I had to suggest one vibe for you based on everything you said: → Lenovo ThinkPad (durable + upgradeable) → or ASUS ZenBook (better screen + battery + still solid)
Good luck! :)
