I know that you have created certain layouts to either have a light or dark appearance. I am suggesting that there is an option for both, like one or the other. One of my favorite layouts is now set to a dark background, and oddly it hurts my eyes with the colors you have it set with. So I can't use it. Not sure if this is possible, but I'd love to have the option to use my favorite layout again.
