I believe I cracked the safe today on my final attempt. I got the achievement. However, rather than a prize, it said, Oh no. Something went wrong. Try again. I clicked again, and it said, you already cracked the safe today.

Even though I was next to the real result before, it didn't say "1 close" then.

more disturbing: AGAIN not the book as prize I cracked the old one so often over the past years and all of a sudden it stopped rewarding the book! (plus gave much less in sP)

I cracked the safe again today. Yesterday I won 35k, which isn't a fortune, but, yeah... Today it was only 1.129 sP !!! really? It's not worth the risk to be a safe cracker these days ;-)

Re the "close" message - can it be, it only works into 1 direction?

...and, yes, the "close" only works forward and doesn't take the lower number into account.

1 is not close to 4 and 4 is not close to 1. Something is wrong with the hints!

any news on the hints? Is it so, that the game not always gives the hints? Or are they simply still broken? Like on 2 spots, judging by the solution, I should have gotten a "close", did not and of course skipped those "should have been mentioned as close" numbers, yet those WERE the right ones
