i'm still very new here so please forgive me if this has been talked about/discussed already, but
is anyone else left a bit bewildered by the current layout of the subforums, specifically when it comes to bug reports?? x_x like........ for instance, from the main forums page in the "subeta" section, we've got "problems and bugs" with a separate forum for talk about the kumos site beneath it.
that itself isn't an issue, but then you look inside either and are quickly met with a "kumos bug reports" subforum within the former, and a completely separate "bugs" subforum in the latter. not only are these not linked in any way that i can see, but the kumos forum itself has a whopping 13 subforums within (with a "bugs" subforum simply stating "Report bugs in any Project Kumos feature") - but people are also allowed to create new topics (discussions??) from the general kumos forum's main page, and besides keith's own posts there EVERY post i can see is also about a bug on kumos (with no pinned topics, burying keith's posts as well) :'D
for contrast, the general "problems and bugs" forum itself contains 6 subforums, one of which being its OWN for reporting kumos bugs.
maybe i'm just overreacting but this feels like a bit of a nightmare both from a user interface standpoint, but also from the perspective of staff attempting to gather/address these reports and reply to posts/provide updates - i've only been here for a bit over a month now and i've already seen countless posts about the exact same bug/issue (usually related to kumos) posted anywhere from the shoutbox to the general bugs forum to the ACTUAL kumos forum to the bugs subforum from within THAT forum to the numerous other subforums listed next to it. so no wonder most bug reports go without acknowledgement (that we can see anyway!); where even are we meant to post these reports, and where's staff supposed to look for them?? @ _ @
i have no idea if this is feasible/possible, but if there could be a single place to report bugs (specifically related to kumos) accessible from both the "problems and bugs/kumos bug reports" path as well as the "project kumos/bugs" path (and probably disallowing users to just create topics outside of the actual subforums if that's possible as well??) i think that'd make things a lot easier for everyone.
maybe. again i uhh do Not claim to know anything about the backend of this site or quite honestly much about coding in general so if there's a reason this can't be done i get it lmaooo
as-is i just feel like there should probably at least be some consolidation going on because the current setup is so all over the place (literally) (or are we all just expected to use only the discord because i'm frankly so overwhelmed by discord but i know that's a me problem :'D)
hope this made sense thank you for coming to my ted (keith?) talk :3
The forums are such a mess ever since some kind of reorganization was attempted in relation to Kumos (I think?) but it's just... it's chaos! I've been here over 17 years and I don't know where to find anything anymore! Topics have been squished into places they really don't belong, a whole bunch of new very specialized forums have been created for every single little thing on Kumos apparently except for what I actually NEED (I really wanted to give feedback about the new Kumos Slots but there was literally nowhere to put it?!! At least not that I could find, and now I don't care anymore, it just sucked the first time I tried it and now I don't care to take the time to explain why anymore). Every time lately that I've tried to give feedback about Kumos, either it gets ignored (probably because it's in the "wrong" place and doesn't get seen) or I get lectured about how I put it in the wrong place (even though personally I think what I say is relevant to the topic I put it in or I wouldn't put it there). It's EXTREMELY disheartening and I've all but given up on giving feedback at this point. I'm kinda like... not really happy with a lot of things but I guess either it'll eventually get better or it won't and I'll give up on it.
Also, I know why Keith prefers Discord and his explanation makes sense and I accept it, even though I'd prefer to keep communication about Subeta ON Subeta, but like, I get it. I can see how it's easier to communicate there. But with the whole thing about Discord requiring ID and age verification starting soon, I don't think that's a viable avenue for communication anymore. I never really liked Discord and the moment they ask me for ID, I'm deleting it and never looking back.
omg ok it feels very validating to hear all that from a longtime player ;_; thank you!! but also aughhh that sucks....... and hearing about discord rolling out their stupid id verification thing just repels me even further like. what are they even thinking lmao??? (i mean i KNOW what they're thinking it just sucks)
unrelated but your pets are so cool....... i love cherenkov especially hehe
Tbh I was pretty grumpy last night and might have ranted a little harder than I meant to but I still stand by it lmao. Except I might have been a little unfair to the new Slots; I don't think the game sucks but I didn't have a good experience with it (I lost a lot of sP lol, also the achievements for it are confusing and I think some of mine got stuck) and not being able to find a place to give my feedback about it made it more annoying.
The Discord thing definitely sucks. Obviously, that's not Keith's fault and I'd bet he's not happy about it either. I guess we'll see how much of an actual hindrance it becomes. I've read that Discord might not actually verify everyone's actual ID if they think they can guess your age from your activity onsite but I have no idea how accurate that'll be. I don't do a lot there so there's not a lot of activity to judge.
Thank you so much! I really appreciate that :D
thank you for this post and yes — this is a real problem, both for you all trying to report things, and for me, the person trying to fix them. i actually tried to make this simpler recently and clearly did the opposite. i built a tool that marks Kumos features as "beta" (like the wardrobe, forums, etc) with a little notice at the top and a specialized subforum for reporting issues with that specific feature. the idea was that it'd be more obvious where to put things. instead, i think it just scattered everything further. so i'll be rolling that back and consolidating things into fewer, clearer places.
i also added topic tags to the Kumos forums, which i think is actually the right idea but needs another pass. the goal would be: one "Problems & Bugs" forum, you tag things as kumos or slots or wardrobe, and that makes it way easier to sort through. i'll take another look at making tags more visible and easier to add. and — i don't actually prefer discord! it's just that with our current player count, it's really hard to get real-time collaboration going on forums. 15 years ago i could post a topic, get immediate feedback, have people testing things, and two hours later we'd have that "team" energy. that doesn't happen anymore. discord means i can toss out a link and get someone poking at it within minutes, which matters a lot when i only have a couple hours to work on Subeta. if i could get that same speed on-site, i'd massively prefer it. i just haven't figured out how to make that work yet.
something is always going to slip through the cracks, though. i don't have a team triaging tickets for me or surfacing the highest-impact stuff. i get on, check discord and the forums for feedback on whatever i'm actively working on that day, and try to get as much done as i can in the time i have. this is honestly a place where the community can help a ton — well-organized, clear bug reports in the right spot make a huge difference when i'm trying to move fast. i know that's a lot to ask, especially when "the right spot" has been confusing (that's on me!), but once we get the forums cleaned up i think it'll be a lot easier for everyone.
i've said it on other topics but it bears repeating: this is really a skeleton crew right now, and it's just me doing the programming. i appreciate the patience, and posts like this genuinely help me figure out what's not working.

hey, no problem, i get it!! and you're very welcome :D thanks so much for the profile comment and the rifty lurby, i really appreciate it!! <3 we are kindred spirits methinks........ hehe
omg though HEYA !!! it's massively relieving to hear all that from you, ngl ;; i'm sorry for the annoyances i'm sure i've caused by mucking around here with my newbie bumbling and general lack of site knowledge, and being so new here i'm often really unsure what i should or shouldn't even bring up because for all i know it's all old news/just something that can't be helped, and i'm sure from the perspective of someone actually WORKING on the site (the site owner, no less!) it must be frustrating for you, too!!
to be candid here, i was really kind of lost when i first joined and to be honest a lot of things irritated me about the state of the site - until i discovered that the site has been around as long as it has, and that the owner, who created it as a young teenager, was STILL maintaining it. that was very eye-opening and it makes a lot of stuff make so much more sense; i reiterate that i am by no means a coder (probably obvious lmao) but i can only imagine how much of a task it is to upkeep something like this, built out of passion on a framework two decades out of date and held up ostensibly by only a few people. that's dedication!!!
so i'm glad this silly little post of mine could actually be of some use, because i really wasn't sure when i was drafting it lmaooo....... hearing that you don't actually prefer discord is also very refreshing not gonna lie, but i also like. get it. i know that forums like these (especially on a site with a much smaller userbase these days) are just generally much less-used than something so instantaneous, and especially if you're the one behind an operation you do sorta have to reach for avenues that the most people are actually using :(
for your sake i hope the board consolidation is something feasible to reach towards, and as someone who really likes things categorized i could absolutely see how the sort of....... organized chaos that's going on with them rn could have come to pass, haha. again, i don't at all begrudge you or your team not replying/responding to every single bug report, especially if it's not super clear for everyone where they should be!! i know you guys have a lot on your plate, so just hearing this from The Guy himself is really reassuring. thank you!! :'3
the new "glass shell" layout on kumos is super stylish and nice btw i like it a lotttt
