Hello! I am mystified by this game, and was wondering if someone here can illuminate me.
"Subeta Tiles" is listed as a game in the mind category, but when I click on it all I get is a text about meeting the Tile Monger (which sounds like a nerd who's roleplaying a little hard, maybe?) but nothing more! There's a link to the tiles collection so I was wondering if maybe I need to have tiles so I can play, or if the game is not active at this moment?
And, on the subject of tiles, they seem pretty expensive! How does one obtain them outside of spending a lot of points?
pretty sure that old version is deprecated and has been replaced with a new version on kumos.
as for how to acquire tiles i'm pretty sure you used to have a chance of earning one when you beat a game in the original version, but i don't remember the specifics of how it worked.
This is a very long standing issue, and there is a current board for it in the problems & bugs subforum: ! Subeta Tiles game isn&;t showing up at all, it&;s only showing the story. It is still possible to play the original game, for those who don't have the bug.
The tile items are earned by playing the original game but not the redone version on kumos, which is fairly different. This is may be a little hard to explain since you cannot see the game yourself, but I'll give it a try anyway cause why not haha. When you complete a round of the original game, you earn up to 3 in-game tiles. These accumulate in a "tile case" that shows the 59 subeta pet species that existed when the game was made in 2006. The goal here is to have at least one of each species in this case. As the tiles you earn are random, you have the option to trade 4 tiles for another 1 of your choosing to complete this in-game collection.
Once you have one of each species, you get the option to play a special bonus round of the game. Normally, you play with 36 tiles but this bonus game has an unlimited amount so instead of playing until you've used all the tiles, you play until you cannot make any more matches. (Just a note that in the original game you can see 5 tiles to play which each have 2 colors & a subeta pet, as opposed to the new version were you can see 7 tiles each with 1 "color" and a subeta pet, so the 2 games do play a little differently.) Once you finish this bonus game, you are rewarded with one of the actual tile items! The in-game FAQ says: "Q: Every time I play a Bonus Game is the tile I'm given completely random? A: Not completely. The tiles given are divided into groups. Based on how your score in a Bonus Game compares with the current Single-Game high score, you are directed to a group of 1-6 tiles from which the computer picks 1 tile at random to give you. This makes some tiles much rarer than others." Playing this bonus round also consumes one of each tile in your tile case, so you then must start collecting them again by playing more normal games.
I suspect that due to both the slightly convoluted nature of earning the tile items combined with the fact that many players such as yourself cannot even play the game, has contributed to the fact that the tiles items are still wildly expensive even after almost 20 years of being available. But they are just a normal collection, like plushies or trading cards or the rest, so there's no need to purchase them if you don't want to.
