Hello, I was unsure of exactly where to put this, so I hope it's alright if I put it here.
I really think that more users would be able to get fairies if they were just floating around the site, the way that the Red Rreign items popped up during Fireside, and the pumpkins during Morosetide.
I've only experienced those two holidays so far(I made an account years ago but never played, then rediscovered it) so I don't know how the other holidays/events work yet, but wouldn't it just make more sense?
I mean, I looked at the achievements, and you need to catch 500 fairies, which is a mininmum of 500 forum posts if, and I'm being generous here, each time you post gets you a single fairy by default. Adding onto that, you need to release 1000 fairies, so with each forum post netting you one, that's 1000 forum posts over the course of this event.
Doesn't that just seem a bit excessive for forum posting, even if you're a chatterbox? And what if you're extremely shy, have social anxiety, or don't read/write English very well?
I hope this suggestion will be taken in good faith, I'm not trying to put the site down or anything. I've heard that it's just a small team, and I'm grateful for all you guys do.
Happy holidays!
The faeries did used to be like the Fireside rreigns! I can't imagine why they haven't been put back that way, now that Fireside is over. I wasn't even aware they are going out at all!
I swear I saw one fairie floating around before Fireside ended and that was it. But I agree! I have been posting a few times a day since Lumi started and have gotten 3 fairies at most. I almost wonder if it's a bug from turning the rreigns off.
I think I found maybe 5 or 6 fairies from posting in the forums since the start of this year's Lumi. Sometimes you'll even get a random event stating that you've found one, or they've followed you (forgot what the event actually states). If collecting the 1,000 fairies seems difficult for the release achievement, usually there's a forum topic that users band together to make FREE fairie trades just for users who need help. I know I've helped out with that group in the past, and will probably do it again this year :)
EDIT: Ironically, I got this event while making this post...yeah! You found a fairy while making a post!
Thank you for the replies, it feels good to know I'm not just being an inexperienced newbie about this LOL
That makes my initial math even more frustrating, honestly. It means getting one fairy per post for sure was way too generous, you likely have to make a MINIMUM(and that's being lucky!) of 1500 posts in the forum to even stand a chance at completing your Luminaire achievements this year. That sounds incredibly daunting.
Another factor that I forgot to add is that people have lives offline. Hubby and I are lucky(ish) at the moment, neither us are employed for health reasons, so we don't have day jobs, but I am his primary caregiver. For people who work fulltime, and have offline obligations like children, pets, chores, and errands, this fairy gathering is highly unfeasible. Throw in added family stuff because of the myriad of holidays going on, and it's worse.
Am I allowed to to tag Keith? I don't want to bother him because I know he has a lot on his plate right now, but I would be interested in hearing what his view is from the backend. Perhaps there are things that we are unaware of, regarding recent functionality of the legacy site. I really hope that I'm wrong and that it works fine still, and that this was just an experiment on his part.
I hate this achievement! I hate that we built things like this where you navigated the site just to collect thousands of something to throw them away. Ugh!!!
I've been trying to think of how to translate the 'floating items' from legacy to Kumos -- will continue to think on this but will also make it so that all of the quests on the kumos site give a fairy in dec
💖 ✨ 🤗
Thank you for implementing the floating fairies! They seem to be working well, except for they don't count towards the Fairy Catcher achievement that you hate, oops! When caught correctly, they show up in the inventory, and when released there, they count towards the released fairy achievement :D
