Is there a way (or any opportunity in the future) to adopt/obtain legacy pets from users that are inactive?
Just curious, because every now and then I see a pet from an inactive user that's due for clearing, and I wish I could adopt them.
I do miss the days of being able to create legacy pets, as it's so hard to find them now. So, just curious if this is an option, or something that may be considered in the future. (':
this will NEVER happen. It would be like asking a person gone for years to give up a cw that might have a huge meaning and significance behind it. No one should EVER have to give up anything important to them, just because they may have had to take an important leave of absence.
by "legacy pets" do you mean pets with legacy names, or pets with "legacy" in their adoption date info?
the former can be adopted from users who choose to give them up. sometimes people put them up for adoption in the pets subforum, or people make threads stating that they're seeking pets with legacy names (or hypothetically you could find one in adopt-r-us, but that place is almost always empty these days). however, to transfer any pet or belonging out of an inactive account would unambiguously be theft. inactive users can always come back, which is why their accounts aren't deleted; but even if they never return to the site, it would still be a violation of their account.
the latter cannot transfer to a different account without losing their "legacy" designation, because that label refers specifically to pets who were on an account before adoption date started being counted separately from creation date, so there's no data for whether or not their creation & adoption dates are different. once the pet moves to a different account, it gets new adoption date data, thus removing the legacy label. to be clear, this is completely unrelated to legacy names, but i wasn't sure which one you were referring to.
I think it's worth adding here that accounts that are "clearing" aren't deleted! We don't delete accounts and haven't for many, many years. It just means that the username will become available for someone else to use.
I'm glad that my pets are still here, tysm, guys. I'm back after 7 years (I think?). Wondered why one of my pets is called Felina_400 - I'm sure she had a different name. So that's what happened, her name was just taken by someone else? It's OK with me! I just wondered if I can give her another custom name now - I couldn't find an option so far...
There should be a link allowing you to rename her for free in your events (as long as you haven't deleted them yet) But if you have no worries! Best you use the legacy site and not kumos for the following steps: Go to Personal tab > Pets From here every pet should have a drop arrow in upper right on their square, click that The option for rename is in all those options!
Since you've been away a note about names, you can literally choose what you like providing it matches site guidelines and that you don't already have a pet with that name. So you can have names you never thought possible! There are no more legacy pet names as stated above, and if any of your pets legacy names bother you and you want it erased there's an option in the pet rename menu. Another thing is you can rename your pets almost as often as you like to! There's time limits to how many and how often, but if you feel your other names no longer suit ideas you can change them without losing other work you put in 😁
FINALLY GOT THE 15K WARDROBE DONE!!!!! Next up gutting and selling it.
OFF TOPIC: I have the pet Nenli with a legacy name from a user who is no longer active. I can send her over if you want her. We need to be friends too, so i sent a friend request as well.
I really have to update my blog ObscureJourney and my review site BeingObscure. French speakers can read my reviews here.
Short: No.
Long: Before I think ~2020 (?), when all pets were "legacy" by default, it was possible to rename your own pet using an inactive pet's name. But it was different from actually adopting the inactive pet into your account, you just renamed your own pet with the inactive pet's name, the same way you can still do with user names (as far as I know). So with the renaming system, the inactive pet's name would just turn into something like "name_numbers". Then, if the inactive user ever came back, they would still have their pet and be able to rename it to something else with a name change.
Adopting the actual inactive pet would be quite an issue, giving a pet can have levels, books read, food eaten, a job, and treasure chest. Not to mention the emotional value some pets can have. So I would not be counting on that ever happening.
Tbh, I wish we could still create new legacy names, there are a lot of good ones available, especially for the people who like the more invented fantasy sounding names. Personally, non legacy pets do not give me the same joy. And there are a lot of people who still enjoy legacy names, so I don't see why not make it optional for the first pet created with an available unique name to be a "legacy" name pet, while still keeping open the option to create non-legacy pets, so the name is not gated for the users who don't care about it and just want to name a pet whatever name they like.
Edit: On General > Pets, you can check for people adopting out legacy name pets. There are ping groups like the Legacy one as well, so you get notified when a legacy pet is looking for a new home:

I just returned to this site after rediscovering it, and I am so glad that my pet was not given away! I really really hope that this is something the admin never considers, as it could potentially hurt a lot of people.
Plus, it could get messy if this was never explicitly stated in the user agreement, especially since there are aspects of pets that can be acquired by purchasing using rl money, and giving the pet away to someone else would be like a form of robbery? Yikes!
Thanks all for your help and feedback here!
First of all, I want it to be known it was not my intention to offend anyone.
I was just wondering, as in the past, I know claiming pet names from inactive accounts was possible.
that is so very kind of you! I would love to give her a new home!! Thank you!
I sent the pet over, you juat need to accept the transfer. :)
