Unsure if actual issue/bug or the pool just happened to work out this way. I received my items from Mysterious Melody and out of my item I received 3 Nuclear Lifelike Devonti Doll and 2 Red Toned Staying In Sweater. Unsure If you are supposed to be getting that many of the same thing from 1 pool. Thank you in advance, and thank you for all you guys do <3
It happened again. Got 3 Strawberry and Kiwi Fruit Cream Sandwich and 2 Dapper Tabby Kitty Outfit. That is 2 days in a row.

I got one of the items I put in back too. One of the members didn't contribute any items last I had checked so maybe that was why in my case but, idk
I also recieved one of my own items from last nights Mysterious Melody, made sure to check that no one else added the same item.
yesterday I got 3x Weird Rag Dolls and 2x gummy pumpkin parasite (?name, it's a challenger drop wearable going for like 1k in shops, the name cuts off on the kumos screen), and today I got 3x Dapper Blue Fox Figurine and 2x Space Shaped Handmade Chalk. thought the first day was just someone buying the same gift multiple times but two days in a row and seeing there aren't any duplicates in the rest of the gifts I'm unsure if I just got the same person twice in a row or if it's a glitch. (^~^;)ゞ

I'm also noticing lots of duplicates in the item pool. For the past three days I have noticed 3x of items from my own wishlist in the pool, yet I received items that were not on my wishlist (and likely on others).
So seems like a two-fold issue. 1. Everyone being shown the same WL items and 2. These items not being distributed to the right people.
User are shown a cached wishlist of the others in the group - if someone only has a few items on their wishlist, then everyone in the group will see a similar spattering of items.
If everyone in the group purchases those items, and puts them in the pool, then you are likely to get an item back that is the "same" (but it is not the same as the one you put in, it is the same item, but it's impossible for the system to give you back the same item ID, it will just go to melody).
If one person has an item on their wishlist, and 3 users buy that item and put it in, it's very likely the user with it on their wishlist got the item, and two other users. This isn't "not being distributed to the right people", it's that there was more than one in the pool. It will then try to divide things equally after going through wishlists as a consideration.
This is a massively complex system that tries to take into account many, many factors. It learns over the month how much sP you are willing to spend and will attempt to group you with similar users. It tries to take wishlists, value of items put in, etc, into account when distributing items. It is never going to be perfect.

what wishlist is it pulling from because mine look like this:
the default has 3.3k items on it and the items I've been getting are absolutely not on the smaller ones?

To clarify - this quote you've used from my post above refers to situations in which one of my WL items is in the pool multiple times (often 3x) yet none of these got distributed to me. On both occasions it was a low-value plushie that I highly doubt the three other users also have in their WL.
In return I received items such as subQ items that were not in my WL, but likely in others. In affect, I got their WL items and they got mine.
MM is a fun way to gift and should not be about WL farming, so I couldn't care what items I receive; it's just nice to be part of a community. But I just wanted to reiterate that in my experience items are indeed not being distributed to the right people.
edit for balance: Today's (yesterday's) MM is night and day to previous ones this year. Item pool only has one duplicate and is clearly full of other users' WL items. I received all WL items, and from looking at the pool it would appear that the others did too. Indeed today's offering felt more like where we ended up after all the testing last year.
I just ran into a similar issue, but it's the first time this has happened!
I received four Startled Scaredy Cat Figurines and two Frightened Scaredy Cat Figurines. Could it be possible that Melody threw one in there for me as well? :P
I also have a ton of things on my wishlist, priced at various ranges.
Edit to add: Prior days, Melody has worked like a dream. I really enjoy this version of it, where you know people will appreciate what you gift them (because it's what they want!). Seeing my gifts every morning + shopping for others is truly putting me into the 🎁 holiday Spirit 🎁 ~

I've noticed this same thing has happened to me twice now in my MM groups as well. On the 4th, I believe it was there were 3-4 Trickster Ragdolls in my MM pool and I didn't get a single one of them. I got some higher valued items, a few of which were also on my wishlist, but I highly doubt the other members collect Trickster Ragdolls the way I do, so I was pretty bummed not to even get one when there were so many in the pool.
And the second time was just yesterday when there were 2-3 Younger Ragdolls, which I also collect and are therefore on my wishlist. Once again, I got none of them. And this time I didn't get a single WL item.
Again, I understand that the point of this event is just for fun and it's randomized, but I feel like the WL distribution should be looked into a little more as well.
I was wondering if this was happening to other people as well. I don't remember this being an issue in the past. First day I participated got 3 of the same and 2 of the same (all 5 items were worth 3k each after I had put some nicer and pricier items in). I adjusted my gifting after that, anticipating it was gonna be like that again but I felt a bit sad about it. Today I got 4 of the same and 2 of the same. To be fair these were all wishlist items but it seems a bit off. :)
That said I always really enjoy the holidays on subeta and I appreciate all the work that is being put in. :)
I guess everyone is expertencing this, yesterday I received three of the same item and today two of one item and two of another item.
Chiming in to say, I received two of the same item again today. It was a wishlist plushie over 100k so not exactly complaining about this one. Just confirming that this still seems to be an issue.
Still, I am very much having fun with MM and I appreciate all the work being put into the feature and all events on this site as a whole.
Edit: (12/10) The same thing happened to me again today. There were 3 Mercenary Ragdolls in my MM Pool which I know is on my WL and I didn't receive a single one of them. On the flip side, I did receive a book I clearly remember being on a different member's WL, but not mine.
Again I get that the element of randomness is part of the fun, but I truly believe there is something borked with the distribution system. At least in regards to WL items. This has happened too many times to be just pure bad luck.
I also experiencing this. First day I received back an item I sent, though it was an item that also being in my wishlist so I thought that's what causing it. But today I received three Lifelike Warador Doll, and Two ten points wizard token.
- is anyone addressing this?
Today's gifts:
5 of the same item 🙄

Also chiming in to say that I have on several different days gotten multiple of the same item. Perhaps there should be a way to limit how many people see the same item on the wishlist peek/suggestion if possible? If there aren't enough to not show different to each member of the group that's one thing, but I know that I (and many others on the site) have so many items on the wishlist such that each person could get a different one on their preview.
If you want survival flowers, head to this shop and let me know which ones you would like.

That group had 8 Shinwa's Orb in the pool. Someone (you, and others) must have had it on their wishlist, and everyone in the group donated one (or more).
There just isn't a great way to do item dispersal when that happens -- it tries to give one to the people who have it on their wishlist.... and then it needs to hand out the rest. It looks like from that screenshot that you got items from your wishlist? If the pool has duplicate items, they've got to go somewhere.
This just isn't going to be a perfect system. It's got to take a bunch of inputs, and no one in the group is going to be happy every night. It's up to you if you want to participate or not, but I'm not planning on making significant tweaks to the algorithm. I am planning to run a survey sometime next week from people who've done at least 3+ to validate the feelings in this thread. If this is happening to less than 5% of the groups daily, that is basically what I expect with a system trying to do what this is.

Thank you for finally acknowledging what's going on, and for deciding to put out a survey. I'm having trouble believing that this is just bad luck on my part. Because once again, I have run into problems. And this is at least four or five times now.
This time, there were (4) Pink Bunner Plushies in the pool (an item on my WL, so I assume that was on my WL peek) of which I received zero. And on the flip side of things, I received all (3) Silver Laurels in the pool. An item of which one again is not on my list.
I did get two WL items out of the deal this time, but unless everyone in my group had the Pink Bunner plushie, I feel I should have gotten at least 1 of them, compared to (3) Silver Laurels which aren't even on my list.
I'm just wondering if it's a bug or not. Hopefully the survey will help clear things up. I just feel like I keep getting multiple of someone else's WL items...while they're not even getting a single one of them.
I am not really having much luck this year with MM either. I have been putting in 5 items every night and whereas near the beginning of the month I was getting 6-7 items a month (but not always a copy of wishlist items when there were multiples in the pool), the last few nights I have gotten 5, 5, and 4 items. The pool for the 10th I got 3 of the same wishlist item. Last night I only got 4 items total and 1 was a wishlist item. It’s pulling all from my hidden wishlists too, which I wish there was a way to toggle off.
I’m always purchasing wishlist peek items OR giving items of decent value that aren’t shown on the wishlist peak, yet I have gotten quite a few items worth under 10k. I get it that the point is to gift, but it still is frustrating to basically get junk that’s not even on my wishlist when if it’s pulling from my hidden wishlists, I have a bunch of currency items and items that are very reasonable. It’s kind of insulting to get cheap battle loot or yellow tincture which is under 5k when I’ve put in decent items.
I would love to participate in a survey. I just feel like I had more fun last year with it.

I've also been getting quite a few duplicate items, usually 2x of one and 3x of another. I have a huge wishlist, so I'm wondering if somehow it's only accounting for items in a very small price range, so the pool it selects to show others is smaller.
In the grand scheme this is something I do entirely for fun. It's nice when I get something from my wishlist! If I get a double, I can absolutely find someone else who has it on their WL and gift it so it's not a waste. But I don't recall this happening as much in the past or the first few days this year so I'm wondering if something shifted when the algorithm started to see what I would spend or if it's just one of those things that is what it is.
