when i was in high school one time i came in like 4 hours late because i fell asleep on the train on the way to school and woke up two hours later in a totally different town. thank god the ticket inspector didn't come by because my transit pass wasn't valid outside my city and i would have been fined €50 LMAO

more recently, some weeks ago i came in late to work because i just kinda............ forgot i had a job ¯(ツ)/¯ idek how it happened man, i was just hanging out at home after breakfast when i was like OH SHIT RIGHT I'M EMPLOYED

Long ago (like 2007 or something), I lived in a high-rise building and had to take the bus to school. Not a school bus though because at that point I was too old. A bunch of kids in my building went to the same school as I did, so we'd usually all hang out at the bus stop an hour and a half before class because the busses were unreliable... :')

One winter we had the craziest blizzard, but they decided to keep school open for some god forsaken reason, so we ended up waiting for a solid hour before we realized the bus wasn't gonna show up anytime soon. We ended up walking (which I didn't want to do, obviously, but yanno, the best kind of peer pressure is the kind that makes you do something responsible, like go to school or study or something). Since we lived 2ish miles away, it was a long, arduous journey that was super fun if you didn't also have asthma like me, or the beginnings of frostbite... also like me. And we had to do this in dress shoes because it was a catholic school and sneakers weren't allowed, go figure.

Inevitably a bus trundled along and we were able to take it (for free!), only for that bus to break down on a steep hill a little over halfway the distance to school. At this point we were an hour late, so rather than stick around and wait for another bus, we decided to walk the rest of the way. Almost entirely uphill.

I mean we made it eventually. But we were literally walking through the door covered in snow and all tired n whatnot when a gaggle of other kids showed up lookin' a-okay. Apparently the bus did show up at the building, just super late, and the kids who took it had to sit on there for 2.5 hours but at least they didn't have to walk in the snow.

but tl;dr: "BACK IN MY DAY I had to walk uphill to school both ways in the middle of a snowstorm!!" And it's not even a joke... (✖╭╮✖)

I'm typically not a late person. It was kinda engrained in me to plan way ahead and make sure to leave time for accidents or detours along the way. If I'm gonna be too late however from leaving my house I'm "sick" 😅 However I HAVE done the whole turn over and snuggled back on the blankets then remember I'm employed and expected at work oh CRAP rush more than a few times haha but I blame the cats for that because how am I supposed to leave them?!?!

FINALLY GOT THE 15K WARDROBE DONE!!!!! Next up gutting and selling it.

There's a coffee shop directly across the street from my work's complex that I frequent before long shifts. One day before a long Saturday shift, I decided to treat myself with some yummies. Well, my brain went into autopilot and by the time I returned to my car, I realized I left my keys in the car! And of course, my chicken brain LOCKED the car which means my keys were sitting pretty in the passenger seat mocking me. I would have left my car and went across the street to clock in if my purse and valuables (and work key!!) weren't also locked in my car. Coffee and munchies in hand, I called my supervisor to let them know what happened (sans the lil' treat bit) and that I was gonna run late. AAA was called immediately afterwards and came within 20min. I was 45min late to work despite being across the street LOL

there's only one local road between my home and work that's open in the winter, so when something goes wrong, like a tree falls, or a boulder comes down, or a couple of idiots wreck themselves, it's a minimum 2 hour drive around the backside of the mountains and back over the summit (usually in a blizzard, because that's what caused the problem in the first place.) to bypass the problem. The most hilarious in retrospect though, was when the septic tank lid collapsed under my motorcycle as I was starting out for work. When the old wooden tank lid gave way, I suddenly found myself up to my armpits in sewage. This was back in 1980, so no cellphones to call the boss, and no one would let me back in the house to use the phone until I hosed myself off outside. By the time I got myself cleaned up and hiked to the nearest bus stop, I was almost 4 hours late. I was never able to get that motorbike running right again.

I was once late for work because in the middle of my walk there I found a really fat raccoon stuck in this flood overflow storm drain thing? I called animal control but, because it was a foot path and not on the street where there was an address I could provide, I was asked to stay there and wave down the guy they sent. I was too worried about the little guy drowning to leave so I was an hour and a half late.

i lived super close to my job so i walked there and one time there was a dog tied up to a post and it was a suppppppeer hot day and it wasnt in the shade :( so i ran inside my work, yelled at my (evil and demented) boss that i was going to be late clocking in, grabbed a bowl of water and hung out with the dog outside til its owner came out from the grocery store so i could tell them not to do that again

my boss was actually pretty understanding and later i realized this job didnt care when i clocked in at all because most people were drinking on the job so me coming in an hour late was whatever

😘
