Is the 800 character limit in smails real?

Like is it going to cut off my message or will it prevent me from sending it? I just tried to send one I thought was at 802 characters and it seemed to go through. Is the site actually counting this?

Not 100% sure if the site cuts it off at a certain point but I've received/sent messages that are longer than 800 for sure and they didn't get cut off! IE one smail I received at 885 words/4000+ characters.

Ah, so more of a suggestion (or... broken?). Which is good since they don't seem to count the characters or alert you when you're getting close. Thank you. (:
