Hi all! I'd like to propose a quality of life change in the wardrobe. Currently, when searching for items, we can set our Visibility to "Owned items" and "All items". I'd like to propose a 3rd option: "Unowned items". I can think of two ways in which this can be helpful for users (though I'm sure are probably more).

1st: For people who have very large wardrobes looking for a specific kind of item for an avatar.

  • Currently If I want to find an item, I always start sort by "Owned items" first to see if I already have it. If I don't, I have to select "All items" to see I need to buy the item I want. However this means I'm seeing both items I already owned and new items, which adds a lot of time to my search. An "Unowned items" feature would really make the search for the item much more efficient.

2nd: General use for users who want to search for items to buy to expand their wardrobes.

I'm not sure I would use it often but when I did want to it would be very helpful. After looking at the wardrobe I might use it all the time and do a lot more shopping. 100% support

🌟YAY!!! I finally reached 5000 food items! My ultimate goal is 9000. 🌟
My first Gourmand pet would appreciate anything from this list that looks yummy.
Still need Morostide candy if anyone is trying to eliminate sugar from their pets diet

Let's have a semi-functional site that isn't held together by wishes, chewing gum and code threatening to give out before we go through the even more code-heavy notion of searching through each individual user's wardrobe to see which items they don't own.

No support at this time. Check back later.

I'm a Magic 8 ball today.

Just out of curiosity, how would that work differently from the search the site has to do to see what items are in the user's wardrobe? I know nothing about coding, but since the site already has to identify all the items we have when it loads the wardrobe, and since it already has to load every wearable in existence when we use the "all" option, couldn't there just be a toggle that instead of showing the owned items from the "all" list, shows the unowned items?

(And please no one give me a rude or snarky response to this :( I'm asking because I genuinely don't understand. Treating people like they're stupid for making suggestions is neither funny nor helpful.)

If my understanding of coding is anywhere close to the level of which needed for Subeta, then it would have to query each user's wardrobe, not in a way dissimilar to the search function already there.

Now, that being said, it sounds simple enough in passing. Except that there's hundreds of thousands of items on Subeta, having a query for unowned items from one user at a time isn't going to give the servers the shivers but having a few dozen/hundred is going to bog things down pretty quick. Unfortunately.

Keith has said multiple times in various posts that there's bits of Subeta that are hanging on by hopes, prayers and chewing gum. All you have to do for that is look at various admin posts by him (there's a few, I'm not linking all of them as I have to go in a minute.) It's not really feasible right now, later? Sure. I hope that Subeta survives because long enough for there to be a later and that this becomes a reality. But there's a few things needing tended before that.

The event lag, for one. Random items lacking images being another. The recent autopricer hiccup. And so on. This seems kind of low on the list of priorities to me but that's me and my opinion.

Hopefully, though, something of this helps you understand this better or at least gives you a starting point.
