These are just my thoughts.
Most players have limited time on the site so they will have priorities where daily activities are concerned.
Battlers. Priority quests will probably be Shinwa and Quentin in hope of getting stat boosters and mage amulets. Battlers might also do Saggitarius because he pays well and Library because Alexander gives out a lot of valuable items that can be resold. The rest of their time could be spent wading through all the battle opponents for amulets and tomes. Pets with high intelligence and strength can get well paying jobs but that is a bonus.
Pets. For many players pets are the priority so they spend their time working on pet profiles. They might only do questing if they want sP for potions or eleixers etc to change a pet's colour or for items for treasure chests. Many treasure chest items can be obtained from the special holiday shops so they might spend holiday times making sure they get as much special holiday currency as they can.
Wardrobe and CWs. There are players who make CWs and others who buy them. Only people who can't afford the subscriptions giving CSC and CW vouchers will need to do a lot of questing so they can buy CSC gift cards from other players along with the hope of getting the occasional Morty Card.
I think a lot of people enjoy multiple aspects of the site. Quests are the best way to make "money" and that "money" is necessary for almost everything on the site.
I think anything done to try and make quests even more worthwhile and maybe even fun is great.
I love the idea of reputation points leading to special activities and maybe perks but people with limited time will be likely to concentrate on the quest givers that provide something they need. Stats for battling or promotions for pet jobs would be very popular. However, many pet focus players are longing for new pet jobs. As good pet jobs require high levels, strength and intelligence it would make sense to do quests for training and books but once the pet focused players have achieved their goals they mightn't be so interested in doing a lot of quests.
I don't know that I agree. I'm the creator of the Pet Enthusiasts Group and I currently run the Pet Spotlight and TC Help board and I honestly think there's a LOT of motivation for pet folks to do quests. Changing species and color, getting pet slots (omg if they released another round of MC slots?!), training, buying books for reading (omg please I am begging for mass reading of some kind), pet-related achievements, TC items, and at times buying art / stories / overlays / profiles. Some folks absolutely are in a position to spend irl currency on the site or to create certain things on their own, but as long as we can keep buying pet slots and filling them with pets we have an endless amount of reasons to spend time questing. ATM we can have upwards of 120 pets. That's a LOT of sP to use up before they are "completed" and rumor is we may continue to get more slots as Kumos continues to develop. TCs can always be added to, or galleries can even be used as extensions of certain pets. So I think pet people especially have every reason to invest their site time in questing as much as possible.
I totally agree with you that everyone is going to likely allocate time proportionally to quests that give them what they most want / need. I think that's a bit of the point though. The end-game is a system that is fun and worthwhile but also sets players up to have stuff to do for years to come. The site needs to attract a lot of new folks and sustain numbers / engagement. So making quests quicker and more profitable is amazing, but so is the idea that we may have to chip away at some quest related things.
I also think this is a good discussion! Understanding what motivates people to do quests / certain things on the site can help staff allocate their resources during development! I think Keith asked about what kinds of things would motivate people on the Rep Feedback board so if you haven't added your input there you totally should!
Side Note - I really like what you're doing with your pets! Having a Subeta "self" and creating Subeta lore / stories that group pets is so creative!!!
That's useful information where quests are concerned. I've come across several comments on the lines of Keith doesn't think quests are all that popular. If quests aren't the most popular activity on the site the question becomes why don't all players do all the quests every day?
Totally! I think the biggest issue I've heard with quests is they are tedious and time-consuming. So the goal with new quests (to my understanding) is to make them quicker and easier, more profitable, and more worth doing through the different uses of the reputation system.
If quests can become more popular across the entire base, more people are going to be actively engaged in the economy and various areas of the site that need the sP they would make from quests. It would also make it more likely for the site to retain new community members vs having interest fizzle out.
Granted, I'm a "do all my quests 6/7 days per week on average" kinda gal, and I also have more time (I'm guessing) to spend onsite than other folks may due to the nature of my job. I know I totally have my own biases and experiences that fuel my perspective. I think hearing from folks who don't quest on why they don't and what would make them start is ideal for this project! But I would think hearing from everyone can be helpful if the input is constructive.
As I have a lot of time to spare I do most quests every day. Cinthia gets neglected, though, unless I get a Morty Card at the end of my regular quests. I've stopped doing Blue Building because I have 27,290 blue points to spend and there's nothing else in the shop I want to buy.
I'm thinking of stopping Wizard quests for a while because I have 136,057 Wizard Tokens and there's only so much vending we can do. They don't sell all that well either.
I'm wondering why I do quests, really, because I am a multi-billionaire in sP. I find battling very tiring so don't want any more than three battle pets and I have all the weapons and scrolls I need for the amount of battling I do.
I have 67 pets which is enough for now, especially as I like them all to have pet jobs. Many of them have temporary jobs while I wait in hope for new jobs. I have 5 musicians currently working as Babette's Babysitters but I'm not bothering to raise their strength, level and intelligence unless we get suitable musician jobs which require extra stats.
I am hoping to take out a subscription later on in the year for CSC and a CW voucher so I can get back to having fun with my wardrobe for a change. I could then spend a lot of my time making avatars instead of questing so I have something to do. (I'm disabled and housebound so Subeta is an enjoyable way of filling in hours in the day)
Thank you. I'm not really working on pet profiles at the moment though because there have been rumours that the way of doing pet profiles will be revamped in the future.
Dang, teach me your ways. I am always out of funds because I spend all of it on pets and wardrobe items lol.
You could sell your Blue Building Points if you wanted (as in you have a price per point and get items for people who then offer the point price on a trade) but given you have so much sP on hand I doubt that's appealing to you lol.
I tend to keep 2.5k wiz tokens on hand in case, and otherwise sell them off at 1k increments. They tend to sell within a few days for me! Especially if there is a TS restock, then I can sell multiple in hours usually.
With that much saved up you could totally spend some on CSC or items directly to play with in the wardrobe! There are so many beautiful items on the site!
I recall Keith saying pet profiles would still be able to have totally custom CSS! Thank God, because that's a huge part of what I love on the site. But the CSS on legacy and the CSS on Kumos would look a little different because of the changes to the base profiles so I know current profiles would need tweaking (which hopefully won't be horrible).
One thing some folks do which is really cool is create playlists for their pets! I haven't gotten that far, but it's such a good idea.
If you were just joining the site now, what would make questing appealing? Do you think you'd be more motivated since you didn't have funds saved up? I'm curious what level of saved funds is the "tipping point" where people lose their main reason to quest. Maybe reputation points and the activities attached to them will give more reason for questing! I think that's the goal at least.
I have been a Subeta user for 20 years, 4 months, 3 weeks, 2 days although there were times when I took a few months off for other things. I've always enjoyed questing and restocking so even though I've spent billions I've also managed to put billions in the bank.
I've bought a lot of CSC gift cards from other players in the past but I'm now hoping I can afford a subscription so I don't have to work so hard because, as I get older (I'm 76) and more infirm, questing and restocking are getting increasingly difficult. I didn't take out a subscription before because I moved house in January and that was expensive.
I like the idea of reputation points and special interactions with various quest givers because it will be a reason to keep doing quests for other things besides making sP which I don't really need. I will just concentrate on the quest givers whose perks and interactions interest me.
If was just joining the site now I would only have the basic five pets and do enough quests so I could afford nice colours, minions and treasure chest items for them. I wouldn't do battling because it's hard work and hideously expensive. When there's a holiday such as Vesnali and the Atebus Revolution Masquerade I would spend most of my time earning the special currencies so I could get most of my wardrobe items from there along with buying things my pets would like.
I don't think I'm a typical Subeta player, though, so it would be nice to hear from other people giving their reasons for doing or not doing a lot of quests.
Wow! You've been here since the very beginning - that's awesome. I have a subscription and it's very nice, I look forward to it each month! I'm glad you'll be able to enjoy one too.
I agree! I don't feel like I'm the "typical" player either in some ways so more voices sharing perspectives would help! It's also kinda cool to hear how other people engage with the site, and what they enjoy. For example, I don't really battle so it's interesting to hear from folks who invest in that aspect of the site!
I don't do my quests because they're tedious, boring, and even though they don't really take that long to do, the fact that there are 100+ of them to do daily just makes me not want to bother. It's just so much repetitive clicking and I am very ADHD. I procrastinate on buying things instead of ever actually spending sP, and being at around 1.5billion makes me feel like I don't need to bother earning sP. I like to sit on at least 1 billion because I'm obsessed with pet slots and I like to dream that one day there will be more Millionaire Center pet slots.
I'm a lot more interested in the idea of doing quests with the reputation system involved. I like the idea of befriending NPCs. I also very much like the idea of the Quest Shop going away so I no longer have to grind like 100 quests for a single item from the seasonal shop. (Yes I realize I could buy these items from other users but I always feel weird buying items that I could earn myself. This does not actually make me motivated to earn them so it's really annoying.)
Anyway, since I don't have the patience to do quests, my dailies here are my Battle Quests, visiting the Bathhouse, collecting my pets' income, and training my pets. Since my pets earn a total of 2mil daily from their jobs, they can cover the cost of the training I do, so I don't need to do quests to earn sP for training.

If there weren't quests to do, I don't think I'd spend as much time on Subeta because I don't know what else to do to earn sP consistently, tbh. I still have a lot of pet TC slots to buy, items for their TCs, pet colors, and more pet slots to fill. So, I guess my reason for doing quests is pets right now, but I also like to dress my HA so sP is just handy overall.
There are some days they are too tedious for me to do all at once, but then I usually do them in smaller chunks starting with my essentials (Saggi, Wiz, Quentin) and then the ones I'm still getting the achievements for (Duality & Maleria).
If there were more games and activities to balance out having less quests, I'd be more excited about quests being reduced. But I'm not sure what I would do on the site, like I said. I usually do all my quests, do my dailies, and then spend my sP on more TC slots and fill the slots and then don't really have anything else to do.
I usually put on a YouTube video (or two, or more, depending) to do my quests and it's not so bad.
Typically I only log into Subeta to do quests, especially lately that I've been saving up to get a rather expensive CW item that I've had my eye on for years. Planning on dropping 5000 credits for that sucker and currently over halfway to my goal!
Before this, all of my sP was tucked away to save for a new pet slot or TC items for my pets and I'd occasionally drop way too much on an expensive wardrobe item I just HAD to have to complete a look.
I agree with - I've always done quests as my main source of income on Subeta because honestly I don't know how other people are wealthy otherwise. I have a lot of downtime at my current job so I always knock out my quests when I'm here. When I'm at home, I'll break out the laptop or even do them on my phone.
I don't like to spend real money on Subeta as a general rule of thumb just because I can't physically own what I'm purchasing. I have spent real money on Subeta over the years because I've been here for so dang long.
I've done a few of the new quests on Kumos and the system is decent, I would just like at least the same number of NPCs giving quests, especially with the reduced numbers available daily. I also wish the minimum was 5 with 2 more if you have a gold account. I usually don't have gold accounts unless someone gifts me one.
I don't do quests because I feel kind of burnt out from them. There was a time where I did them pretty much everyday but now I'm just kind of a weekend warrior and even then, I don't always complete them all. They're just kind of tedious.
I also haven't done a lot of the new quests because I'm waiting for them to be more ironed out.
tbh only really do all quests when we activate the free 3 months from our loyalty box. other than that we just do shinwa, wizard, saggi and quentin. since we've been on subeta for more than half of our life we kick around just because its part of our online ritual, but not a lot of drive is there.
restocking was never interesting for us, nor was achievement hunting or collections. lost the drive for battling, and quests being our only source of sp income, seeing the inflation of the csc cards is a bummer. jumped from 45m to 59-60m in a day for the 500csc cards.
honestly prefer the kumos quests since we do those first and then do the legacy ones, which feel more like a slog as we have gotten used to having no 5 second wait time on buying from npc shops lol. hoping that when kumos is more ironed out that the pay is worth the lower amount of quests.
we just pop on spotify, blaze through them, auto price and then either make a HA or be done with the site for the day. the forums are difficult to navigate for us, lol
Absolutely would do quests more if the reputation unlocked pet jobs, because I would ultimately like all of my pets working a job that suits them in particular, and with the limited amount right now there isn't much of a choice.
At the moment I currently do Wiz for the tokens, Saggi for the sP, Shinwa for the occasional booster, and Drills for the holiday/retired items. Occasionally I will do Quentin(amulets) and Carl(subq) if they're the weekend quest
What else would make me do quests? CSC, Humming Power Crystals, the chance at getting an additional GA day, Hustler reset so I can buy an item again, one extra dip in the bathhouse, free Potion Lottery mega ticket 👀
So here's the thing.. I did all my quests daily for.. a very long time.
And then I stopped, because there was nothing really I wanted to spend money on. I went crazy on beanbags, but gave up on them because I've been waiting on one beanbag to be re-released for over 4 years now. So I don't really want to work on my plushie collection because I'm afraid I'll come up against the same thing.
I still find this wardrobe difficult to use on a smaller screen size, so I don't blow it all on wearables, I've got the highest tier for gourmand and don't really care about the trophy list for it.
Right now, there's just nothing I'm interesting in spending my SPs on, so there's no point in questing. For me.
I did allll the quests to get the achievements.
Once I got all the tiers, I trailed off doing them. Occasionally I’ll complete them if I want a bit of time doing a mindless task to switch my brain off for a bit.
I’ll also do them if they’re giving out event items; such as Cinthia and the flowers at the moment.
Achievements are the number one motivator for me on the site.
