Hello all! I am trying to be more active on Subeta besides just lurking daily, so I was thinking about starting a board discussing books as I didn't readily see one! so if I missed it, oopsie doodle.
I'd love to see what other people are reading currently and get book recommendations.
I'm currently reading Can't Spell Treason Without Tea by Rebecca Thorne.
It's cute and cozy so far without too much mush. It's similar to Legends & Lattes if anyone has read that one. Can't remember the author as the book as at home and I'm currently at work.
Hope to discuss with other bookworms ^_^
never heard of it..
I just started "A Captive of Wing and Feather": a Retelling of Swan Lake by Melanie Cellier . part of a 3 part series. First series "the four kingdoms" 2nd (which I'm currently on) "beyond the four kingdoms" 3rd (last that I know of) return to the four kingdoms.
do you use Goodreads? It's a site that you can search books, make lists of books, keep track of books you have read, create a reading goal for the year, they also have book giveaways.
check out colors of the moon my coloring/reading and puzzling channel on youtube. Basically it's my hobby channel. I color, I read books regular and manga/graphic novels, and I do puzzles. I also do product reviews at ">moon12216reviews
I have heard of Goodreads and I think I used it a looooong time ago and simply forgot about it! I shall add it to my list of things to do today, especially since my goal for this year is read at least one book a week.
goodreads has forums to talk about books. book topics don't seem to be popular here..

yeah that's a little disappointing how dead the forums are now here :/ I was hoping to meet fellow Subeteans to add more variety to playing on the site. maybe I'll just have to find a different topic to discuss.
some forums on here are more active than others.. there was more forums manga,anime,etc.. but they where removed I never really seen them used..

I just finished Night of the Witch by Beth Revis and Sara Raasch. It was sooo good that I instantly bought and started the second. Not a ton of super romantic stuff in it and just very good pacing and action. The second one is called The Fate of Magic and I've been loving it as well. I'm hoping to finish it by Tuesday when my copy of Sunrise on the Reaping is due to be delivered!
Hi! Iβm currently reading Death Valley by Melissa Broder. I usually read books that center around unhinged women or that fall into the magical realism category. Also love reading translated works mostly by Latin and Japanese authors! I have a hard time with fantasy stuff.
Oooh yay a book rec thread! I mostly read spec fic and lots of queer lit. Can't Spell Treason Without Tea is already on my TBR :). Favorite authors are N.K. Jemisin, Seth Dickinson, Shelley Parker Chan, and Ursula K Le Guin.
have you read any books by T Kingfisher? She writes fantasy that is fairly lighthearted, but still has good characters and plots with substance!
For what I'm reading - I don't think it's good but right now I'm reading Onyx Storm by Rebecca Yarros (I know, I know). And up next is James by Percival Everett. Just finished Autonomous by Annalee Newitz, and it was by far my favorite of their books.
I use StoryGraph not Goodreads for a million reasons - it's constantly getting updates, less focused on book ratings, not owned by Amazon, cares about user privacy, etc etc. I love their reading challenges, so a bunch of the books I'm reading this year will be to try to help me complete reading challenges! Like reading books from different countries, or I'll probably try to read all the Hugo finalists when those are announced.

I will forewarn that it is a large book, it clocked at somewhere around 720 pages or so, but I'm big on epic fantasy, massive amount of pages types books.
I usually read a lot of epic fantasy, historical fiction, mystery type books or horror though not as much horror. Covenant of Water is more historical fiction. It's a multi-generational family saga book set in Kerhale, India starting from 1900 to the 1970s.
I just started Axiom's End by Lindsay Ellis. I've heard good things, so I'm excited.
Axioms End sounded familiar and I think I saw it while milling about in B&N. It looked cool but I never picked it up. Just looked up the synopsis and it seems my speed too as I LOVE Sci-Fi fantasy. I feel old though because lots of these books you all suggest seem like recent publishings. I'm over here reading Every last book in hitchhikers guide, some Terry Pratchett books and one of my absolute favorites is the time machine by H.G. Wells. Another of my favs thanks in large part to my FiancΓ© is Deepness in the sky. I'm feeling old with all my 90's books lol. I wanna get through some of Vernor Vinge's other books as well since they're set within the same universe as deepness in the sky iirc. Sci-Fi and dry British humor very much strike a chord with me if that wasn't evident.

I'm about to start rereading The Hades Calculus by Maria Ying while I wait for the next book to come out in June. It's a sapphic retelling of the Hades & Persephone myth, nearly all characters are trans and/or nonbinary and there's mecha involved.
Just finished The Last House on Needless street. It was great!
ahh I forgot I started this thread, there's some great suggestions in here. I myself am liking cozy books recently as they are pretty easy to read and get through, and then I feel satisfied and accomplished. recently finished the last book in the Tea & Tomes series. absolutely enjoyed them and a little sad that they are over. I just started the Enchanted Greenhouse by Sarah Beth Durst. the first one was sweet and cozy, titled The Spellshop. the covers are super pretty in my opinion as well and are lovely to look at.
