hey y’all, happy 2025! 🥳 i’m still grinding on porting features to the kumos site, and up next for testing is sMail (subeta mail) along with the buddy/block systems.

so, sMail. it’s OG—like, untouched for 15+ years. it’s also a SPACE HOG and super inefficient, which is why inbox limits exist. the system is bananas: every message saves TWO copies (one in your sent, one in their inbox) and then copies the ENTIRE convo chain into each message. think less “forums” where messages are individual entries, and more “db nightmare.” 🙃

but! the new version is finally sleek and functional, and here’s what’s changing:

1. you can now have up to five people in a single convo. search/select from a dropdown like a pro.
2. messages are threaded, so no more messy chains clogging everything up. you can even have multiple threads with the same person. 🥴
3. buddies/blocks are here too, with full access to pending requests. bc social life matters.
4. legacy sMail gets its own tab—read all your old messages there. while legacy sMail still works on the old site, new ones will show up as read-only on kumos. no worries tho, your old convos will be preserved forever. 💾✨

buddies and blocks? no big changes, just better management from the page. that’s it!

Are there plans for privacy options concerning online status? I've noticed this around the Kumos forums, but it's really blatant checking out the new mail area, a lot of my friends have their "last seen" set to hidden on here (including myself), but on Kumos it tells exactly when people were last online.

I didn't try sending a mail yet, but the setup looks pretty good so far.

Also, I didn't get that siteupdate ping? D: And most of your posts don't show up in the admin posts feed either. In order to keep up with all these updates I'm having to stalk your recent posts :x

There are, and I thought it was taking those into account already :( I'll take a look -- it shouldn't show the status if you've got it set to private! I'll also make it possible to toggle on the page itself.

Yeah.... I'm not sure what is going on with pings right now on kumos, i'll give them a little whack

I haven't tested the mail system itself yet, but I found two bugs with the friends list:

1. https://kumos.subeta.net/user/friends only shows favorite friends, not all friends. I can't favorite/unfavorite friends there (not yet at least?).
2. the search bar auto-closes a second or so after I input anything into it. It also does not return any results when I search for full or partial usernames of people I know I'm friends with.

The "Pending requests" link/button/whatever you wish to call it has much more padding on the left side than the other buttons do. Or the text might be centered? :P What I'm trying to say is: it sticks out.

I would also suggest having the mail preferences on their own little link/tab/section underneath the "Trash" link. Having it under the messages themselves has potential for accidental mislicks and looks out of place. Or will these be moving to an eventual single Privacy Settings page (with things like friend request settings, gift settings, pet transfer settings, etc.) somewhere on the user dashboard?

https://kumos.subeta.net/user/friends/blocked also only shows people that I have blocked, it does not show people who have blocked me. Are there changes coming to the blocking system too?

I can't edit my post to add: I get a 500 Server Error when I try to send a test mail to a friend. x_x

- I've tried testing the new mail system and all I get is an error pop-up. When I click the "Log In" button, I'm taken to the news page.
