I’m texting with a friend catching up on life and they’re happy so I said “people happy is my jam” and suddenly, in this moment, at 35.97 years old, I realized “is my jam” is an “I love this song, this is my jam” statement and not in fact calling something a fruit preserve with a favorable meaning??

I just… I just thought like… (nonmusical thing) is my jam…. Jam…. Strawberry jam idk whatever flavor…. I like jam…..

I guess I heard someone use it that way the first time, my brain thought preserves, and I went "oh that's cool ok" and never thought deeper. I spend all day deep thinking and picking up on connections for people, and that goes great. And then also me?? "wait wait wait.... jam...."

Hilarious!! What's something y'all have accepted initially and then later realized you'd misunderstood?

I kept taking "blow up" (as in "get more fame/recognition") very literally until very recently.
