i was just looking for certain character entries in the Subetapedia and realized the current organization is a bit confusing. having characters split into good, evil, and neutral pages is not exactly intuitive, especially since people who are looking at the Subetapedia in the first place might not even be familiar enough with those characters to infer which section they would show up under; even i had to open all of them just to make sure i wasn't missing anything!

plus, aren't those categorizations a bit reductive and arbitrary? how "good" does someone have to be to be in the good section as opposed to neutral? even in a fantasy world like subeta, it still feels a little awkward to assert certain characters as unambiguously "good" or "bad" imo...

i think a better option would be to have one page with all those NPCs listed & linked. maybe if the good / evil / neutral categorizations are to remain, they could just be separate headers that each group of NPCs are listed under.

The Subetapedia character entries are a mess, For example, Quentin's entry in the Neutral Characters section " There have been no explanations on from where Quentin has come or whether there are others like them with horns, pointed ears and claw-like fingernails. Some Subetans believe that Quentin may very well be a somewhat friendly demon, possibly a descendant of the clan described in one of the many legends surrounding the Krypts within the graveyard. While whispered breaths have carried many different rumors from ear to ear, the truth may never be revealed."

They are also included in the list of Quest Givers where it says " Is of Ji-Meneb descent."

Off to The Darkside in the Locations section. "The Ji-Meneb shared a similar appearance to other indigenous population of Subeta -- Humanoid in appearance, with longer, pointed ears, however they also typically have horns (varying in size and style), and a green tint to the sclera of their eyes. This tint is caused by a protective membrane formed over the surface of the eye, originally evolved to protect the delicate eye from the dust and grit of the Darkside. A notable example of Ji-Meneb citizen is Quentin, the questgiver in nearby Shadowglen."

oh god yeah the contents and formatting of the articles themselves is also a bit wackadoodle tbh. i guess quentin's article was written before the ji-meneb lore was established and just never got updated to match the rest of the places their info is listed.

one of the characters whose entry i was trying to find was actually connor rainsong and i couldn't find it for the life of me and i thought "huh maybe he doesn't have an entry yet" until i eventually found him listed under "characters > neutral characters > the council of subeta."

which, ok, fair enough, he is a member of the council... but i didn't remember that!! so how would i have found that aside from just checking every possible page?

so... yeah, maybe there should be a better system of information architecture in place here...

There are food items and a book referring to King Keith but why?

The Council of Subeta entry gives details about the actual council and who is in it. You have to go to Locations, Centropolis to find this - "The seat of the Chancellor is in an area of the city called King's Quarter, a reference to the monarchy that existed before the current system of law."

You then have to go to Good Characters, Sebastian Phoenix to learn "Sebastian Phoenix (suh-BAS-tee-uhn FEE-niks) is the Chancellor of Subeta, elected directly by King Keith upon his retirement from the Subeta Republic."

NPC Keith presides over the Free Shop in his royal regalia. There really needs to be an entry for NPC Keith which could include something like "On occasion the monarchs of Subeta gave free food and items to the citizens. The Council decided to keep this tradition and former king, Keith, runs the Free Shop whenever there is one of these special occasions. He wears the old royal regalia as a link to the past."

There needs to be a lot of re-writing done for older Subetapedia entries.

The entry for Charity says "Before she had even introduced herself, however, she had been singled out by the others as the odd one out, her strange appearance having given her away as not quite human. Her shocking purple hair and pointed ears set her apart, and she could do little to hide her differences. Dismayed yet optimistic, the girl befriended the only children who didn't regard her with such critical scrutiny; those who had also been systematically shunned for other arbitrary reasons."

The Shadowglen Location entry says "The traditional group native to Shadowglen are the Tehb, allegedly a hornless off-shoot of the Ji-Meneb people of the neighboring Darkside. A large region, Shadowglen is home to a variety of ethnic groups that make up the "Tehb People". This, combined with their history of intermarriage with humans and the Ji-Meneb, mean that their appearance can be highly variable and not easily identifiable. ......Famous Tehb (or confirmed mixed-race Tehb) Subetans include Jaxon Skelly, Connor Rainsong, and Elwood."

Charity, with her pointed ears is obviously a Tebh or has Tebh ancestry. Charity lives in Riverside and the Location entry for Riverside says "Ji Meneb migrants are especially common in Riverside, as their knowledge of mining gained in the tricky climate of The Darkside make them invaluable as project leaders and specialists."

The people of Riverside are familiar with Ji-Meneb who have pointed ears and horns so Charity being not quite human or not even human at all wouldn't be unusual. They must also know that Connor Rainsong, one of the Council of Subeta members, has pointed ears and the Recyle Beast is definitely not human.

i guess that's what happens when the site lore is built up piecemeal over the course of 20 years :P

because The Wizard is a quest giver, on the Subeta council, and I guess is just that important, he is listed in the Subetapedia three separate times. having sections for quest givers and shopkeepers and general NPCs seems like a lot too.

I think this would work, and the header could even have a little bit more info, like for The Wizard "Good, Quest Giver". like not too much info, but just some context as to where you're gonna come across this character on the site, and then the larger article can get into their background and personality and all that.
