TLDR: Please provide feedback on rejected banner ads, or allow us to post links without banner ads again.
I really like the ads feature on this site. I think it provides a nice platform for artists with a smaller budget who want more attention for their art with a very specific audience. I'm not buying banner ads on Subeta hoping that I'm going to hit it big and get a lot of traffic, I'm buying it so that I can put my work in front of a very specific group of people who might enjoy it. I work with queer creators looking for an audience like them.
It would be nice to know if an ad is rejected for the content of the ad (we're not going to let you post this because we think it's inappropriate for the site) or if it was because of the banner ad itself (we don't think this banner add is appropriate or relevant).
I've had my ads for my small business both accepted and rejected before for various reasons. I would really like to buy a banner ad to promote a music video my friend's band made on YouTube. I oversaw the production of this video. The video itself is rated PG-13 for comic mischief. The banner is a slide from the music video and a headshot of one of the singers.
I tried to submit the link again to see if the image I used for the banner was the reason why I was rejected, and although there was the option to choose what kind of link I can post (I chose "dancing",) I couldn't submit the banner without the image.
I have no issue with trying out different banner designs. However, if the ad is getting rejected based on the video itself and not the banner I'm proposing for the ad, I would like to know so that I can stop trying.
💕 💕 Watch me stream Subeta! Check out this music video we made!
I really hope that all of this makes sense; I'm running on too little sleep, but I think that you're getting an immediate rejection because of an issue with what you are selecting when attempting to set up the banner ad, not a getting a rejection of the ad from Staff?
Just to check, are you getting your banner ad rejected on the page immediately after attempting to submit? Or is it later on in an event in your Sidebar notifications? (The "Dashboard" & "Events" section on the left side of the screen.) If it is a rejection in a Sidebar notification, I'm pretty sure that you can File a Ticket & ask for clarification from Staff. (Hover Subeta tab, Tickets: https://subeta.net/tickets.php) If it's an immediate rejection after hitting "Upload Image" then there is an error with what you are attempting to submit, as no Staff member has had a chance to look at it yet.
There was some confusion over the URL & upload section. They had to save the image of the item & use the upload button. The URL text box is actually for the link that they wanted to use. It's not supposed to be an alternative for linking the image. (They wanted their Dance Link to be included in the ad, for the Masquerade Site Event, that's why this option was selected.) The error that was thrown was NOT clear what the issue was. The Site Event links were added at a later time (due to changes in how those are linked), so I'm wondering if the possible error text was never changed?
But, we got it figured out & they were able to successfully submit. & later, they got a sidebar notification about it being accepted.
I'm uncertain what it says if a billboard is rejected? Though I imagine that a line about Filing a Ticket could be added. (or, I think that Custom Wearable rejections note the reason? I'm not sure about that.)
That being said, the banner ad page itself really could be reworked to make it more apparent what needs to be done to submit a banner ad for new, returning, & ESL users. It's not very clear what needs to be done, especially after the Site Event links were added at the bottom. Here's an image that may help to show what I mean. It's a bit large, so I'm spoilering it.
"Name" This section appears to be for your own use. It doesn't appear for others while your ad runs.
"Choose Image for Ad:" You have to upload an image for your ad. It would make the most sense to use an image that shows people what they're going to see when they click it. But, you have to upload one from your own device & it needs to conform to the Rules (that are annoyingly only on the previous page.).
"URL" This is where you add in the link for what you are linking to, not the image you want to use (for instance, if you're trying to use an image of an item, like in the previous example.).
"OR" This section underneath is an alternative to using a URL/link. If you are linking anything that's not an Event Interaction? "None" needs to stay selected, or else you'll probably get an error. This section is only useful for Site Events on Subeta. It isn't used if you're linking something off site. For example, this will automatically add in your Dancing link for Masquerade, so other users may dance with you during that Event.
"Upload Image" The last step. If you're immediately rejected after clicking, there is a mistake with what is being submitted. Just to note, rejections from Staff are not immediate, someone has to check it before an ad is accepted or rejected. I could do a quick mock-up of a little better layout for this page, but I'm not feeling up to it right now. But, even some better spacing & a line about how the links work would probably be better than what we've got right now. ha.
