I'm trying on clothes I have 3 piles. 1 keep, 2 donate, 3 see if my mom can wear it if not put in the donate pile. Im washing everything before putting it in piles. Thinking about dropping the donate stuff off at Goodwill. I'm putting all the donate stuff in a Hefty bag. I've never done this before.. I know there is a spot behind(I guess it's a shoot where you drop stuff down it?) goodwill where you donate..(at least that's how mine is) Mostly I'm going through shirts. I've got more shirts than pants..

I'm honestly not sure what wearable clothes I'm going to have left after I'm done going through all of it.. Ive got one jacket with a broke zipper that I'm still using.. (It's a lightweight jacket with a hood) Then I have a coat with no hood I think the zipper works on it but its more of a winter coat. No skirts, shorts or dresses here. Just shirts and pants. 3 pairs of PJ pants for all year around and 1 pair of PJ pants for colder weather. I don't get to shop very often for clothes.. Pants are hard for me to find.. I wear yoga/sweatpants I'm allergic to denim it breaks me out. I've been wearing 2 pairs of pants lately cause it's all I can find that fits.. So lots of laundry is being done. I pretty much wear my PJ pants around the house to save wear on my 2 pairs of pants.

When your on a fixed income you shop thrift stores, sales, goodwill, you shop cheap lets put it simple. I have plenty of socks 2 pairs of shoes. 1 I wear every wear. The other for when I have hip surgery and won't be able to bend and tie shoes so these shoes are put up.

update oct. 25th gave my mom the bag to drop it off. She had appointment in the area. Got another bag ready cause I'm not done going through clothes.

i worked at salvation army, so im more biased towards donating there since its nonprofit. goodwill isnt. but ANYWHERE you donate, youre doing good

lolololololol i guess that can be confusing lololololol no i had/have vertebral osteomyelitis which is and infection of the spine. so i was paralyzed and my legs / calves went atrophy so they were really thin, i couldnt walk. so after the surgery i was able to build up my muscle again and get to a much healthier weight. now i got a bunch of screws put in my spine because the infection deteriorated my discs and i fractured one of my vertebrae.. but i can walk now.. so thats obviously a plus i too had my clothes from my early 20s and now im in my early 30s but it seems fashion has a way of coming back so i guess many of my pieces are back in style, not that i care anyway because i like what i like hahaha.

I work for Goodwill and can vouch they are non profit and help people in many ways. Actually many "corporate" name type thrift have programs to help people in many ways. We just never hear about them because they are not funded by the government in any capacity so less people know they even can turn to these places for help. It IS however prudent to research those in your local region/district (depending how a company calls each area) to know for sure not only where stores are but also the help centers associated and if any have been in trouble. Out where I'm at our Value Village regional got in BIG trouble. They asked for donations to help people with cancer, more so aimed to "help kids".... And it turned out the ONLY money given to the cancer charity was when they paid for the ads for stickers and such to show they "helped" gather donations. They NEVER gave the funds gathered to the place AT ALL. Not quarterly, semi yearly or yearly. Now after they got found out as keeping the donated cash they have to have HUGE banners in store declaring they are NOT a non profit company.

So local research is good.

I can vouch the base programs Goodwill helps with are job skills and finding housing. Beyond that they tailor it to the regions. On the coastal side of my state they help fund English classes so new migrants can learn to communicate in their new community. But where I'm at we don't find for those but rather schooling such as nursing. And last year we had REALLLY devastating fires in two parts of our region so they directly donated funds raised in a specific week to the local Red Cross and also got people vouchers to get some clothes for those that lost everything. Your donation will be well received no matter where you take it. Just make sure to ask for the coupon/receipt of donations as there's a nice savings attached to it. That also varies per region and company. My Goodwill gives a 20% off an item coupon for donations. But my local ARC only gives a $2 coupon no matter what you donate.

oh well I hope your doing better now. Most of my shirts are solid colors with no designs. So I prefer comfort over what's fashionable.

I know a local church around here that's like that. They gave someone a house..Then the lady got old wanted to move so she sold it. The church turned on her said she was supposed to give the house back to them. So much for helping others without wanting anything in return. Nothing was in writing. Anyway just a church I don't agree with.

So far I got 10 shirts in the donate bag I'm still going through clothes. Just going to be a slow process with everything going on here.

If they gave it to her title and all then it was hers by all rights. But yeah often I find most, not ALL, but MOST church based help to be filled with "gimme backs". Or having to need to be part of the church to even get basic help. So any time I hear a charity not acting well charitable I hard pass. And when the VV said they were non profit to drive cash donations that never went to where they claimed it broiled me. It took YEARS for it to be found out so that's YEARS of lying to community AND essentially embezzlement. And they also don't host any workshops or the like as other thrifts do.

from my understanding the church paid for it but they put it in her name.. The reason this is is my understanding is cause the sale listed her as the owner. She paid all the taxes. I know another church in this town told me to just give up everything (animals,flowers,etc..) and move into government housing. This was a preacher.. he also told me I could just walk everywhere I needed to go. My back is fractured I have asthma and have had 1 hip surgery and in need of another. Later I found out this preacher buys property up and re sells it. I don't go to any churches in my town They are all crooked.

there is a women's shelter here but they get a lot of donations..

Oof well that's amazingly transparent he would hope to hook your place. Which as suck as some parts of read of your story are that's still YOUR space, nobody has rights to it but you and yours. And you absolutely need help with transportation I remember us talking about that before. . Even if you could walk to places iirc you live a distance out of town anyway. So the only option would be to sell to move closer to town, which we all know is pricier for less space. I think you trying to make donations happen is good enough. We all have situations going and where we can offer up our help, what ever capacity that is, the better. As much as we want to do for others all the time, we simply can't and that's ok. As for the one church.... Dude a situation like that would make me boycott them too. If it's in name and the due fees taken care of by her without them, they can bugger off.

I just have a mortgage been paying on but yes even the court house has it on file where the mortgage guy does not own it. He only gets it if default on the payments. as far as transportation goes I've been using medical transit and my mom got a vehicle but it has some perks..
