Outfit Data

You might have noticed lately that I've decided to change our approach to rewriting Subeta, and using https://kumos.subeta.net. Instead of rebuilding features completely and starting from scratch, I'm making migrations and trying to use as much of our existing data as possible.

So, right now there is a 'job' running in the background converting all of the saved outfits on the site to a new format, that will hopefully be something no one has to notice at all.

What that does is give us the ability to easily show outfits wearing an item (https://kumos.subeta.net/wardrobe/outfits/item/139178) and hopefully soon show things like hints in the wardrobe in terms of what other avatars have used similar to the items you're using.

The immediate changes have been:

• Added "view all outfits" to the item details page (e.g. )
• Outfit item details now use the hover (need to link back to this page with name or something)
• Job created that is running to update all outfit information in the background

There is also an (unlinked anywhere) outfits page (https://kumos.subeta.net/wardrobe/outfits/) where you can see your outfits, change the name, and add/remove tags. There are some improvements coming to this page soon (search), and the outfit page itself will allow you to update the description of your outfit (with markdown!), the name, and the visbility.

Just a heads up the link for this from the event of the update brings us to a 500 server error page. The url is https://kumos.subeta.net/forums/t/937656/outfit-improvements?highlight=67369869#post-67369869 I only got to to this using admin post.

2. IDK if there is a way to tag it to a particular forum group, but it might be nice for contests or like I go to a forum group and there is a quick way to see entries.

I love the new outfit tools. Tags that work are wonderful! I'm updating my outfits for my various characters right now.

I also recommend adding a page tool to the unlinked-outfit-editing page, so that it's easier to access currently buried outfits. Some of us have a lot of outfits, and going through them all to get to earlier outfits can be annoying.

Good point, should use pagination instead of the "infinite scrolling" mechanism. will change that out!

Let's see. What are regular privacy options on other sites? I suppose that I'd like to be able to mark outfits as:

Private - only visible to me, so I can hide in progress outfits or whatever. (I don't see how "hidden" would be different than "private" but I'm also exhausted, so probably not thinking straight.)

Friends - to allow users on my friend's list to see them too.

Public (Subeta)- every user with a logged in Subeta account for that Search option you're working on. I was surprised to see that our user profile & pet profiles could be viewed without being logged in on Subeta at all, so that's why I'm specifying. ha. I presume that was for that Pet Spotlight & random user link on the not logged in page. Anyway.

Public (Off-Site) - Probably a better word for that, but for sharing with anyone everywhere online, if sharing off site easily may be a thing? Along with a sign up for an account link for the user who created the outfit possibly. Make fun avatars, show them off, encourage others to be able to more easily sign up & make their own kind of thing. People may not look up or click around Subeta otherwise, but if it's automatically included with a little link on the page for people who are not signed in...? Tap & sign up.

Custom - I don't know if I'd use it, but usually there's some kind of Custom option. Like "Friends of Friends" thing users can do. Or being able to sort friends into groups, like "Close Friends;" we can Favorite other users on here already. But, more options could possibly confuse people too.

Unlisted - Not showing up in search, but could still be shared with a link. Don't know if that's necessary to be its own thing. Could be incorporated into Private. Maybe that's Hidden. ha.

Could be a way to incorporate Forum Groups? Like for CW groups or contests for specific groups? A "Members Only" sort of category/categories?

A way to share just the image without sharing what items the avatar is wearing when they click. I mean, you could look up a specific item, the avatar would be included in the results, but the user would not get a list of everything on it. Like a toggle option of Show Items / Don't Show Items. Not sure how to call that, but could be useful for contests. Might not want to share your layering secrets, right? haha. That way, users could still be inspired by what you have created, without directly tossing on your entire outfit with a single click. Like what we can do for user profiles of sharing all items or just the avatar.

the main thing i can think of is that i'd like outfits to be private by default. i don't know about on kumos, but on regular subeta, they are public by default and then i have to refresh the page to see my new outfit, select it and wait for it to load (which takes a minute), and then change the privacy on it (which also takes a minute) and refresh again to make sure the option took. and during all of that i have to hope no one saw it in the meantime. public privacy settings should always be opt-in rather than opt-out where possible! not that it makes a huge difference if all my stupid cosplays are visible to the world, but sometimes i'm self-conscious about them, lol.

i'd like the ability to bulk edit outfits, if possible. for example, if i want to go through and mark all of my outfits private, i'd like to be able to do that with a few clicks instead of manually navigating into each one to adjust the privacy on it.

Kumos.subeta is exciting, I love these new outfit visability options!

Thank you for putting so much work into this for us

I've been wanting a 'Random' button for years. A button where you click it and it automatically pulls one item from each layer category to make a random HA. I think it would be neat to see what would happen.

I would add "friendly notes" and if I toggle it (part of the privacy of the outfit), other users could write notes about the outfit, like they could suggest a different item, a different way to layer the HA, things like that.. make the feature even more social than what it is now :)

I'm also on board with private by default and opt-in for more social things. I also really like the idea editing on mass, like doing a mass delete or mass tag (which I would use more if they were more functional).

Speaking of tags and making them actually work, without knowing what your current plans are, I would like a way to:

a) see which tags I made and manage them in case I want to delete any. I do not actually know if you can delete any?

b) be able to select from a drop instead of typing them in because I think this is messing up the search function of them (it looks more like a history to me because I just see one tag over and over). The drop down could be on the main page for the mass editor idea and in the individual outfit.

c) maybe more than five if Kumos allows it? Five feels so little.

As for offsite use, I do share outfits on Discord sometimes. I don't know if it is at all feasible to have a way to share WIPs without making an it outfit, wearing it, or taking a screenshot though. My instinct is to right click the HA but you get the overlay for one item if you do that. I understand if this turns out to be impossible though.

What do you wish you had on outfits that you don't have now?

I wish they saved item visibility state. I save works in progress more often than finished looks, which usually means there's a giant pile of invisible items I'm thinking about using but haven't decided on—and they totally obscure the part of the avatar I'm sure about when I save. Frequently I end up saving the big pile as one outfit, then removing all the invisible items and saving again as another just to remind myself what I was going for... which is silly.

On a similar note, it would be nice if there were some way to link outfits together as variants of one another. Sometimes I need to see a few different versions of an avatar side by side before I pick one to wear. (Or possibly one could press tags into this role? I have never used tags and forgot they existed.)

Does "outfits" mean that one page from Wardrobe or the whole Wardrobe section? Because, personally, I'd love to be able to save over an existing outfit, without affecting its ID... and to be able to reorganize outfits, perhaps? And for the Wardrobe as a whole, a "search items by creator" option and a category of items we added in a wishlist would be great imo! Not sure if that's clear.

If you're going to make it private by default (I don't understand why people want this) please don't change the setting for existing outfits. I'd rather not have to go and reset 400 plus outfits to public. Thanks!
