Yup, has been possible for since this version of the wardrobe at least. However Salon style layering has been broken for just as long, and while not impossible it is a huge hassle to have more than one salon style at the time on your avatar. Hair removal bug

I had no idea. It's not exactly broadcast anywhere that I've seen but that (my seeing it) doesn't mean much of anything.

The layering not working is absolutely aggravating as all get out so thank you for the heads up, so to speak.
