I'm not sure if this goes here or in Brainstorming, BUT I have some ideas! What do you think? Let me know if you want me to clarify my thoughts more.

I would like a good mystery game as an event/plot. It could go along with a holiday to make it more interesting. I was trying to think of ideas for holidays that don't already have a lot going on. These are my ideas so far. Sorry if it sounds like rambling.

During a holiday, something happens. An NPC hires you, as a detective, to find out who dun it. You have to visit several other NPCs, by quests or buying from them or playing their game to ask them if they saw/did anything. The NPC gives you a hint of where to go next and to help you along, gives you extra tokens/trinkets/candy hearts/etc. At the end, you find out who the NPC is and you're given an item or something. This can be adapted for several different holidays.

New Years- Complete quests to get tokens to buy stuff. Sometimes it's hard to quest that much and I'm always wanting a lot of items and never have enough tokens. So how about this? It's New Years and all the NPCs are gathered to celebrate. Suddenly a firework goes off early! It scared everyone and it took awhile for them to calm down so they could continue to enjoy their holiday. You're quickly hired to find out who the prankster was. You go around talking to various NPCs for clues. NPC visits can get you New Year tokens. Finding the prankster can get you either a prize item or a random New Years shop item.

Neugarten - Visit shops to buy things. From what I remember, there's not a whole lot going on during this holiday. It's Neugarten and everyone is enjoying the Brewery and various shops in the market. Suddenly several burrero's (from the Burrero Basket Bonanza game) get startled and race through the market knocking things over and emptying whole baskets of veggies. You volunteer to help clean up. After visiting 10? NPCs to get a veggie from each, your basket is full. When you turn in the basket, you're gifted a random Neugarten item. Yay! I know Neugarten doesn't last a long time, so maybe this can be done once an hour.

Keel Hauliday - Visit shop to buy things. (And it's always sold out too!) The Chelon's on the Omen Islands have hatched but their nest was too far from the water and need help! Everyone comes to help the cute creatures. You volunteer to go around with a container/bucket to collect all the Chelon's people have picked up to take them to the water/beach? You need to visit 10? NPCs to fill your container. When you release the Chelon's in the water Merana will gift you a prize/random item. This is the only time of year she'll be nice to you though, so watch it! You can do this once a day or hour. NPCs to visit ideas: the Face Painting lady (name?), Matlal's Jewels, Gabriel face clearing, Carl's quests, etc.

Various NPCs to visit: NPCs can be from shops, quests, or games. For example, Bonesy McBones from the Bones game, Zuzu from the Plushie Parlor, or Alexander from the Library quests. I was more thinking NPCs from shops or games though to get people to visit there more.

I LOVE the idea of more plots! I think they really boost participation / activity on the site which makes things generally more fun! In addition, plot specific items / prizes are a big draw and can encourage more activity post-holiday too or returning participation each year.

In addition to the "base" of these ideas (which is a fun way to approach things) I think you could include "levels" of plot! These could be available from the beginning, or have to be unlocked by completing the prior levels.

Example Level 1 - Help clean up the market! Visit select NPCs to get a basket. Complete quests to fill your basket (veggies / fruits randomly awarded as a bonus prize for quests - drop rate fairly high) Each 10 items is a full basket, which you turn in to the NPC. Each basket you turn in is rewarded with some sP and a random item from that holiday / holiday currency. After 5 baskets you get a special prize. After 10 baskets you get an achievement & prize. After 15 baskets you "unlock" the next level.

Level 2 - Round up the burreros! After you've turned in 15 baskets the NPC asks you to help find the 10 missing burreros and bring them back. They heard some of the quest NPCs may have seen the burreros, maybe you should ask them for any clues? Complete your quests - quests will randomly provide clues (drop rate moderate) as a bonus prize. Each clue is a fairly easy to solve riddle that points you to a location. Go to that location, and you find the missing burrero. Go back to the original plot NPC. This counts as "returning" the burrero to their home and you are rewarded with sP and a random holiday item / holiday currency. Each time you find one of the burreros, it "unlocks" the next clue being given. When you've returned 5 of the burreros you get a special prize. When you've returned all 10 you get an achievement and a special prize.

This is also a really good "base" idea for plots, because the mechanics can remain similar / the same each year but the "story" can change!
Neugarten - Burrero Bonanza Neugarten - Gunter's Return (where we're finding ingredients for special brews) Neugarten - Garden Glory (collect special seeds and the things they need to grow, plant and tend to them)

KeelHaul - Chelon Rescue KeelHaul - Hidden Treasure (whoops, the silly pirates forgot where they hid their treasure, can we help them find it)
Additional Idea: IDK if there are ads on Subeta as a form of site revenue, but I think doing a short period of ads on-site and pairing it with a plot / quest-a-thon could be a good way to raise some funds while costing users only time (and a little patience since ads are annoying lol) versus asking for money directly!

Thank you for expanding my ideas. I love your examples! I also like the idea of levels of plot, like rounding up the burreros. I'm hoping to make events/plots that can become yearly things and not go away after just one year.

I'm mostly trying to make the smaller holidays more interesting. Something more than just spending sp in shops. I also think it would be a good idea to introduce various parts of Subeta to newer users.

My sister thought this might be somewhat easy to do since some of the coding is already in place what with Shinwa's quests.

I love the idea. The world of Subeta is wonderful, and I'd love to see fresh use of the characters and exploration of the world. Lore is always fabulous, and much of what we do happens with Subeta as a "backdrop" whereas this would make it more "immersive", like we're in the world of Subeta. I think having this kind of connection with the "world" also helps create user loyalty via emotional attachment.

Expanding some of the smaller / less interactive holidays in new ways is a good way to increase engagement year round. We could also lengthen some of the smaller holidays a smidge to make sure there's time to complete plots. This may keep activity up more throughout the year too!

There's a lot of interest in seasonal / event items, which is a big draw for everyone and gives newer users access to some rarer items which can help them get involved in the economy. Quests are already rewarding, but do get tedious so attaching them to a plot could help keep them interesting.

These kinds of events / plots would be easy for new users to jump into, which is a good way to help them not feel overwhelmed. It can also lead to "what seasonal item did you get" type boards which encourages interaction and forum engagement even from shyer folks.

I also love that these ideas would keep holidays variable and add to vs repeating! We have: Dancing and Kissing / Biting Floating Items (Flowers, Pumpkins) Gifting (Flowers, Presents) Quest Engagement (Seasonal Rewards) New Shop Items / Unique Currencies Not holiday, but Bug and Bird watching involves seasonally exploring the site to find special items This idea combines some of those elements (ex: quests, site exploration) but loops it into a story that makes it feel immersive and unique.
