Hello battlers, I need a bit of help.
Since my ‚new‘ secondary battle pet Elzebeth is close to reaching tier 6 while a bunch of others are about to hit tier 5, I’d like to revise and, if necessary, tweak my sets for those two tiers.
My primary battle pet recently hit tier 12, so it has been a while since I put any thought into lower tier sets, however, I do own some (most?) of the weapons that used to be suggested before the revamp. I’m a bit on a budget and would rather not spend more than 20mil at this point as I want to save up for the pricier end game weapons.
As to what I expect from the sets, for now, the goal is to be able to beat as many opponents as possible during events and also to slowly but steadily move through the challenger tabs in the battle coliseum. Basically, I want my pets to be able to get some hands-on training. Battle quests are not a priority for now, as those are still reserved for my main pet.
These are my current sets:

Tier 5
Tier 6
I can’t recall weather there was a reason why I put the two Gunblades in the tier 6 set but not the tier 5 set? I usually get heavily inspired by what I read on the boards since the idea of weapon scaling (if that even is what it’s called) completely goes over my head, so maybe my choices here make sense, maybe they don’t.
With scrolls, APs are a bit of an issue, but I plan to work on that soon. I just went through my wishlist, most scrolls on there are challenger loot, so I guess I’ll get those when I get them. The only exceptions are and , are those still worth buying after the revamp?
Any help will be appreciated!
Your sets are actually pretty solid!
• The main thing I would do is switch out your shields (Forj Tempered Shield and Flayed Lord Breastplate) for a Recycle Blaster. It acts similarly to Soma Tablets and turns an additional enemy weapon into junk. I think it would be a more useful addition to your sets than the shields; but this may be a bit subjective, I'm not a big shield user.
• Another thing I would do is swap out your Forj Tempered Kusarigama for a Sunny Side Staff. The Staff, in my opinion, is now the best T5 weapon. It has three mods slots, heals your pet each turn, and has a solid mono-element attack. It's pretty great, and the many mod slots allow you to tailor it to your opponent. I like Ol Blue in T5 because it freezes so I would keep that.
• I also noticed that your Mystical Star Shuriken is a little underpowered for your T6 set. You may want to swap it out for Frost Quill (battle shop) or Porcelain Femme Fatale Figurine (crystal shop). It's not a huge deal, but either of those would work better for you in that slot.
I imagine you might be using the Gunblades in T6 because of your pets' intelligence? Scaling generally means the higher your pet's stats = the stronger the weapon is. Most scaling weapons will scale based on tier (for instance, if your pet is in tier 5, the weapon will scale to be on par with other tier 5 weapons), but some weapons will scale by a pet's individual stats to keep things interesting and allow people to play with uneven builds. The Gunblades scale based on an individual stat (intelligence) rather than tier.
As for the scrolls, yes, Ocean Currents is very much worth buying right now as it is super cheap for what it does (infinite use healer with solid attack and defense). I would put it on par with Aftershocks, it just uses different element types. I do like Sancturia Exodin because it uses slightly different elements than Cobalt Eternal. Depending on which elements an opponent's weapon has, they can be used interchangeably for some added defense. And I always make Sancturia Exodin at the Secluded Shrine. It is always cheaper there than it is on the shop search.
That ended up being fairly wordy 😅 but I hope it helped?
Thank you, this is very helpful and not too wordy at all, I appreciate the explanations 😊
The Recycle Blaster is something I have to think about or experiment with, for some reason I never seem to use it if I have it in a set. Maybe I’m underestimating it because of its randomness. I’ll definitely get the Sunny Side Staff! And probably the Frost Quill as Battle Tokens are a little less grindy than Crystals.
I’ll also make sure to buy the Ocean Current Scroll, I’m actually surprised that such a cheap item is still on my wishlist and not in the library already – has the price decreased recently? If Sancturia Exodin works similar to Cobalt Eternal, I should probably make a bunch of them, right?
The explanation about the Gunblades is clearing things up; given that my lower tier pets are a little on the undereducated side, using them probably doesn’t make a lot of sense (yet). Do you by any chance know what intelligence level would be a good starting point for the Gunblades to be effective?
Even though Recycle Blaster and Soma Tablets hit the opponent’s weapons at random, they can still provide you with some reprieve during battle. For instance, if on a given turn one of the weapons the opponent uses is a junk one, that gives you an opportunity to take less damage, deal more damage, and, most importantly, heal more on that turn. (It’s similar to disabling one of their weapons). Using both blasters in your set gives you a greater chance of that happening since you’re blasting two weapons into junk instead of only one. That is why most advice is to use both. Just something to consider :P
Ocean Currents was rereleased as loot for a limited time last year and the price went down considerably (from 93m to 2.5m) so that would explain it 😅 I’ve been recommending for everyone to buy one right now because it’s never been this cheap. And yep, you can make more of the Sancturia Exodins if you want! It’s basically the same as Cobalt Eternal, it just blocks a few different elements (water and light instead of ice and dark).
The Hearts Revenge Gunblade looks like it is fairly good at any intelligence. I would probably toss the Elegant Gunblade. It doesn’t heal each turn or have any sort of defense, which makes it much less effective at T6 and worse than the Sunny Side Staff at T5.
As for what to replace the Elegant Gunblade with: Do you have Replica Minotaur Knocker or Trident of the Banished One for your big pets? I used those quite a bit at T6 since they heal each turn and have a good amount of defense. Some of the other cheaper stuff I used was Fairy Blade (battle shop), Mallarchy Tooth Katar, Broodmother Talon, Pearly Flail, and Savage Skull Splitter. I like tailoring my sets to the opponents so I end up using a variety of things. If you want a “set it and forget it” weapon though, I’d probably just keep using the Sunny Side Staff in T6 as well.
Thanks again, I think I think I’m starting to see the full picture 😊
After a bit of shopping and tweaking, my sets look like this:
Tier 5
Tier 6
(I got the Porcelain Femme Fatale Figurine instead of the Frost Quill after all because the item just spoke to me a little more – a weird reason for choosing weapons, but at least it adds some fun to the process 😛 )
You do make some good points in favour of the Recycle Blaster😊 I’ll give it another try. The new sets seem somewhat defensive anyway, so perhaps this is a good strategy to last longer and get in more hits.
Both Hearts Revenge Gunblade and Ol Blue are tier 5 weapons and could therefore be used in either sets – if I interpret that correctly, the Gunblade heals while Ol Blue has a chance to freeze? If that is the major difference between the two, it probably makes sense to pick them based on weather an opponent has either healing or freezing disabled …? Otherwise Gunblade seems like the safer option as its healing powers are guaranteed while Ol Blue’s freezing isn’t …?
Replica Minotaur Knocker and Trident of the Banished One seemed to be somewhat divisive before the revamp, so I never bought either. Unless they are absolute must-haves now and still great for tier 12 and up, I probably won’t get them. I’ll definitely look into the other options you listed, but for now, I’ll see how far the Sunny Side Staff will get us. Tailoring the sets will probably become more relevant during events.
You're asking great questions! You can see why there are benefits to tailoring your sets to the specific opponent you're battling :P And you have it right - when healing or freezing are disabled, Hearts Revenge Gunblade, Sunny Side Staff, or Ol Blue are going to behave differently than you're used to and you may want to use something else in their places. That's why I like having a diverse armory, it gives me options for each specific situation. But some people may not have the budget for that and it's okay to make do with what you already have. That's mostly why I listed the cheaper stuff I used in T6 in case you wanted to use other weapons at certain times without breaking your budget. You can still forego the Knocker and Trident, I was mostly just curious if you had them or not :P
It sounds like you have a good idea of what to do now though! The next steps are just to battle and practice :D
