I was going through the wardrobe and I noticed that we lack ink. It would be nice if we can get some nice tattoos and a better variety! We need some flowers, vines, animals and patterns.

Maybe we can get an NPC tattoo artist. We can describe to them what we want, we get presented with a few ideas and pick the best one

we used to have an NPC tattoo artist, where you could submit things you drew for sP, per pixel. it was removed due to it not working with zombie skins. it'd be nice to get this back, but then there's CWs that do the same thing and give the site money, so dont see it coming back.

also, no to any AI art.

there was the old tattoo system but it was pretty clunky and ultimately got subsumed by CWs. i'm always happy to have more official options, though—nice versatile ones that are simple enough to look good at small scale. i feel like i end up using the same few tattoos over and over because everything else is so idiosyncratic that it's only really useful in very specific circumstances.

we remember using the tattoo system to give beauty marks, bc the subeta ones are huge or come with blush, but spending money on a cw thats maybe 5 pixels aint worth it chief

I had no idea we had a tattoo NPC. I've been here 18 years, but I never really took part in anything or explored the map much.

I agree that we can use some versatile tattoos! We haven't had new tattoo sheets in forever and it would be nice to get new ones

Subeta Ink was definitely a thing. It's been closed since... I think one of the many many wardrobe updates? I honestly don't remember.

I wouldn't mind getting it re-added with some premade/preset options, like beauty marks, various tattoo sleeves, fullbody tats and the likes, just so staff doesn't have another user-submitted thing to review when they're already spread very thin as is.

If Rachelle's Replacements and Repair can exist despite us having loads of similar, if not identical bodypart replacements, then I don't see why we couldn't have a tattoo salon in a similar vein.

Edit: definite no to anything AI from me. Tattoo presets drawn by artists? Yes. Anything involving generative AI? Fuck no.

Subeta Ink was the THING back ages ago, CWs took its place but it's nice to know there's still people out there that want it to be in existence. It's a fantastic option for those who don't want to spend whatever on CWs, it should be bought back... since there's always that demand for sP sinks, I mean.

Also, anything generative AI is an absolute fuck no from me. (I forgot I can use that here, lmao.)

I would love a tattoo parlor type thing! I like Frosts idea about there being some pre set ones too :) although, its a big hard fuck no on anything ai for me

Maybe I didn't explain it correctly. I meant what it comes to the tattoo artist, you can explain what you want in a box and then the artist can come up with a few pre-made tattoos. I guess it would be similar to what AI is now? Plus the face painting on the Island is available, so I was like "why can't we have tattoos?" o:

the main issue with this is prompted AI art is it still falls into the plagiarism aspect that folk hate about AI! current ai "art" only exists because it scrapes real art from online without artist consent or credit. we'd be all good for artists doing presets like how suggested, but the big issue is asking prompts to generate art. AI models based on prompts are scrappers, taking art without consent, and while it seems innocent enough, it just isnt ethical in terms of artistic integrity.

not to mention even if it was somehow done without using stolen artwork, theres the potential for generative AI to be abused to generate inappropriate content!

i mean ok are we talking for real here? the use of generative AI in this context just doesn't make any sense for so many reasons, even putting aside where a given model got its inputs. one, the computational power required to parse a prompt and output a result is unreasonable to expect of subeta. two, we're talking images that are only a handful of pixels across; by most metrics, that's not even going to read as an image, just some scribbles. three, there is (afaik) no existing model made to do this incredibly specific task that is only applicable within this incredibly narrow context; who is supposed to create one? there's just no logistical basis for this.

I think it's because the whole AI thing has come up on other art-related topics that people voicing against it preemptively, myself included, makes sense. Idk, I might not be reading too far into it.

then maybe it would make more sense to have a system of categorization/organization we could peruse through like looking at a book of flash tattoos, instead of having to guess what words a design could possibly be tagged with. sort of like how fine fabrics has different colors/categories you can click on to see the different items available to order.

your comparison was confusing because searching for images by keywords has nothing to do with AI image generation. that's just... searching for images by keywords.

I would love to have a tattoo parlor of some kind again! Not sure if the word search idea would work but maybe it could be designed like the Fine Fabrics shop. You choose a part of the body you want tattooed and then narrow those options by theme or color.

How it would work with the wardrobe might be the biggest question though. Every other thing our HAs wear must be put into the wardrobe and we can layer the items any way we want. Would we want the tattoos to be the same? Or would we want them to only ever apply to the skin layer. Creating them as an item would be easier but then we would buy the tattoos and never visit the tattoo parlor again until new tattoos were released. If we make them only to apply to the skin the only way I could see it working is if they drew every skin and tattoo combo so no matter which one we chose it could still act as a skin in the wardrobe. Maybe there is another way but I can't think of one, and I don't see them putting that much work into it with everything else that currently needs done.

If we didn't want tattoos sold in a shop as an item maybe they could become an addition to the base tab in the wardrobe or a new tab entirely. If it was a new tab in the wardrobe, similar to how the redeemable hairs are a separate tab, maybe it could include more than just tattoos like scars and other things you would normally apply to the skin layer.

there is an existing HA overlay system like how face painting & rachelle's prosthetics work, but of course the downside is that you can't adjust the layering at all, so anything that covers your skin (like the curious dolls, jelly shots, etc) will also cover the tattoo, rendering it useless. so at the end of the day i guess the best way to do it is with regular wearables that you can freely put on, take off, and layer like anything else, even though that's not as immersive as feeling like you're actually tattooing your HA's skin.

That is exactly what I was thinking. I do have some of the tattoo items and I really want more but when I layer them on the skin the way I would expect them to be you don't really see much unless your HA is wearing a very revealing outfit. And that does work for some looks. But I find myself wondering which I would enjoy more, items that I can layer and maybe use as a print on clothes as well as my HAs skin or a more immersive system that could be fun and more like a real tattoo.

Whether it is an overlay system or new items I would really enjoy more tattoos. Especially outside the cash shop. I miss the ones we got during past events so I think I may be requesting more during Keel Haul and Morostide this year.
