I always love running into people in the wild (aka outside of chicken forums) who also keep and raise chickens so I thought I'd ask here if anyone has any!

I have a small flock of eleven chickens. They're mostly a mixed flock, though I have a pair of Salmon Faverolles and a pair of Polish chickens!

I'm a crazy chicken lady! I keep a flock of around 35 chickens and also have a guineafowl. I have also kept a flock of heritage turkeys for quite some time, but have temporarily gotten out of that (until next year, when this avian influenza epidemic is hopefully over and I can source the heritage breed I'm after). :)

Mine raise some geese, whom have gone to hatched goslings a few times.

Mine had also raised egg laying hens, but after time all died off one way or another.

Old, and obsolete.

Oh, that's awesome! I want to raise turkeys eventually. I'm hoping to get some Beltsville Small Whites!

I'm currently urban-ish so I can't have too many and only hens but one day I'll move and finally get my rooster and turkeys. I do hatching as well and sell the chicks. This year I'm too busy but I love it. We kept two chicks from my hatch last year, a partridge silkie and a BYM that we call 'Creature' because she's so silly looking.

Oh! I used to have quail but I had to rehome them. I really miss them, they're so silly.

Turkeys are like gobbly puppies! They have SO much personality! I warn everyone I sell poults to, but they never really understand until they find themselves unexpectedly attached. I've sold so many to people who swore they were going to be for food purposes, and years later, they're like "They're like puppies! I couldn't do it! So we still have the whole flock." xD My favorite turkey was a Royal Palm male named Monsieur Gobblepants. We lost him a few years ago, but he lives on in memory. <3

I live about an hour from the nearest real city, so fairly rural. I'm on about 5 acres and thankfully my neighbors don't mind all the crowing and gobbling coming from my place. xD

Oh, that's so awesome! I know that my chickens are really sweet. They wait for us at the door and love to be cuddled by the kids. I'm really excited to get turkeys one day but probably as pets, haha. I've butchered my own birds in the past and would like to again when I have more room but these birds are definitely just pets.

We usually breed our gobblers and keep one or two for food purposes. It's always hard, but honestly, also delicious.

Our chickens aren't super tame or anything. Too many of them, and winter is much too long here to spend a lot of time around them for a lot of the year. But we do have a fun variety of birds!

Yeah, I believe that! Home raised tend to be more tasty. My grandpa raised his own pheasants and quail which is why I want to do so myself eventually.

We have less than a dozen hens so they're very much pets! But yeah, it's a mixed flock. We have a silkie, a bantam cochin, a Buff Orpington, a Dutch bantam, the two Salmon Faverolles, the two Polishes, and a couple BYMs. I've always wanted chickens so I'm super happy to finally have my own.

Oh, I LOVE Salmon Faverolles! My first rooster was a Fav and he was built like a Mac truck and so, so sweet. My favorite breed is Swedish Flower Hens, but I don't have any at the moment. My flock is mixed, but my focuses are primarily Pavlovskaya and Brahma.

Oh, I love Brahmas so much! I had mixed Brahma rooster for a bit and he was the sweetest boy in the world. One day I'd like to have one but Salmon Faverolles are my favorite breed. They're so silly and talkative. I love their little faces with the ear muffs. There's so many breeds I'd love to have one day, I'm a little obsessed with the different breeds. I have a whole list.

Yes, Faverolles are SO chatty and mellow! If only they didn't have single combs. T_T

Oh! Is there a reason you can't keep or dislike single combs? Mine have fairly small combs but I do worry about my girls that have larger single combs in the winter.

Yep, the cold! I'm in Alaska, so that's a big issue here.

Yeah, that makes a lot of sense! We have a garage heater and insulated tarps we put over our run in the winter because it can get down to -40 C but we're lucky because those cold snaps don't tend to last more than a couple days.

We don't heat our coops or runs, so I shoot for super cold-hardy birds! I've only had two single-combed breeds do alright up here (no frostbite on their combs) -- the Swedish Flowers and, weirdly, Delawares. o_O

Im not even sure how many I have.. I know there is 3 silkies.. 2 are hens the other is a rooster. I know there are wyandotte, brahma, lavender orpington and others. No Before anyone asks I do not use them for meat. I just gather the eggs.. I used to sell the eggs but now everyone in my area is selling eggs.. so it's not worth it anymore.. Too many people trying to talk prices down.. saying well so and so only wants blank for there's. or how about a trade.. no thanks. go buy from so and so and so. I don't do trades.

I will say feed prices have gone up..(at least here) I let mine free roam for bugs and get exercise. my neighbors are a cow field and a condemned house.. so plenty of room to roam and no neighbors to worry about except the ones across from me.

check out colors of the moon my coloring/reading and puzzling channel on youtube. Basically it's my hobby channel. I color, I read books regular and manga/graphic novels, and I do puzzles. I also do product reviews at ">Midnight rose reviews
