So a few of my pets, I simply want to recolor and the other ones I’m gonna change the positioning oven such but I read that you can’t just do a color change on it. You have to actually draw a new picture. I’m just wondering if that’s true cause I see a lot of people talking about re-colors, if this is in the wrong section, I apologize but thank you for the help .

You can recolor an overlay just fine. It's the Custom Overlay that are a lot more finicky with rules.

A tiny bit confused so can I do a recolor as an overlay? Or do I have to completely redraw the image? I’m also not sure if I specified pet like a pet recolor. So I’m still a little bit confused. I’m sorry I’m tired lol. Like for instance, if I like the pose of a different Anyu but I want her to stay Glade one can I recolor a different version of her and then you know what I mean? And I also don’t like the color of my angelic Tigrean since I want him to be more mint colored, so I just adjusted the tonality and stuff and made him green as opposed to blue and I don’t know if that’s like allowed? I didn’t even think of doing it until I realized it wasn’t quite as expensive as I thought it was.

Yes you can recolor a pet without re-drawing them.

There used to be a few players and artists that took images and changed them up.

I hope that helps answer. As for the Custom Overlays I know there is rules for that, but if you just want to overlay your pet on their profile rather than custom you can.

what is trying to say is that there are two different types of overlay functionalities on subeta: coded overlays, in which you use CSS to replace a pet's image on their profile, but the regular default image for that color & species will still appear across the rest of the site; and custom overlays, in which you pay 500 CSC to submit an image that will, if approved, replace every instance of that individual pet's image across the entire site.

while the rules for "official" custom overlays are more specific than for "unofficial" coded overlays, recolors and edits of official pet art should be fine for both. as long as you've altered the artwork enough that it is clearly different from the original art, and unique enough that nobody else is going to have an identical overlay to yours, it would probably be considered as abiding by the rules.

(of course, us regular users can't give you a definitive answer as to whether or not it would be approved, but i've seen approved custom overlays that are just minor edits to the official pet artwork, such as changing some colors, adding a prop/accessory, etc.)

I was planning on doing custom overlay and I think that the changes that I make will be a little bit more than what I was originally planning on doing. I just really enjoy the style subeta uses for animals digitally versus what I draw and when it comes to digital.When it comes to coloring I’m just not as good as I am on paper, and I’m still learning to do things like shading and blending and highlights and shadows and I still don’t even really know what the word vector means but what are you gonna do? . So being able to go into clip studios and really kind of make things look the way I’d prefer for them to look is really pretty cool. And I guess if there’s an issue, let me know as long as they don’t charge me for it and then not let me post it that would be good. Also, I really love the Person’s recolors that you showed me. I think I’ve seen them before..

if your overlay is rejected, you get refunded the submission fee, so you don't need to worry about that.
