My cat turns 2 on Sunday so because I feel like posting photos of said house panther... She's an all black void kitty I adopted from the local humane society back in August. (her former owner surrendered her to the society in early August, and I adopted her towards the end of August, August 26 of last year to be exact). She is also my first cat though I've cat-sat for my aunt and uncle's cats before(they have 4). Anyway, back on topic...I've had pets before (had birds)- 2 budgies, named Kiwi and Ghirardelli that unfortunately flew away and two cockatiels named Tolkien and Darcy that had to be given away while I was in grad school in New York, and our family had an aquarium when I was younger and I used to have a betta named Dodger at one point as well.

Anyway, because I'm that cat mom who's totally going to do a birthday thing for her this Sunday, I thought I'd ask about pets others have on here.

Gretel. more photo 3 the requisite belly photo

Anywho, random facts about said cat:

  1. The shelter named her Midnight originally.. I changed her name to Gretel once I adopted her because I like literary names. My betta Dodger was named after the Artful Dodger from Dicken's Oliver Twist and Darcy was named after Mr. Darcy from Pride and Prejudice. Tolkien obviously was named after J.R.R. Tolkien, the author of Lord of the Rings.

  2. She is a food fiend so I can't really free feed her.. I tried when I first got her, and she ate all her food and then barfed it back up because she ate too quickly so she's on scheduled feeding times, usually three times a day. morning dry, dinner wet and end of night before I go to bed, dry.

  3. She's slept on my bed from day one and, I think I unconsciously self-trained her to come when I call b/c low-key 80-90% of the time she comes when I call, trilling the entire time. I kept her in my bedroom first before allowing her to explore the house, just to acclimate her to her new surroundings. She is a good biscuit maker.

  4. I don't plan on ever having human kids so she's about the closest I'll ever have to a kid which means my parents' have started calling her their granddaughter, XD. My mom's nickname for her is little coal ( in Chinese). I alternate between random Chinese nicknames and English ones, little coal, little monster, little demon, goober, Gren-Gren, etc...etc.. lol. She is shy around strangers( she was noted as being shy when I adopted her) and my older brother lives in the same place I do, and it took her at least a couple weeks to get used to him. She kind of clings to me, but will actively hide around people she doesn't know.

  5. I've been harness training her for walking, but so far I've only really gotten her to walk around the house deck. She is an indoor only cat because we live in an area that has coyotes and obviously, I don't want her attacked by coyotes.

  6. She'll play with almost anything, bottle caps, hair ties, contact lenses caps, zip ties, rubber bands, she's played with them all.

And , I shall bug you because I want pet dog pics, XD.

Mine inherited mine pets after mine mum's passing.

To start mine keep her mess of small breeds, a few Chihuahuas and some adopted strays.

A single large mixed who had been abandoned many years ago. Mine would want to get him trained, so he not have be chained.

Several cats, most outdoor and a few who have been socialized an enjoy staying inside during hot and cold weather.

And a flock of geese, two males and three females. They're the third raised here in thirty years.

Mine will update with names and pics, more one than another.

Old, and obsolete.

My kitty is called Roxy. She's a beautiful solid black kitty with big green eyes. I adopted her my senior year of high school. She has feline diabetes and has to be fed a special diet at specific times. She's currently staying with my mother who works from home so she can be fed at the right times while I'm busy with work. She's very shy, but an absolute sweetheart when she warms up to someone. She's playful sometimes, but usually likes to just chill in someones lap.

I'm currently living with my brother's cat right now. Her name is Boots. She's an extra fluffy calico with white paws. She's a talker, it's pretty much constant meowing and she loses her voice a lot. She's quite honestly the prettiest, softest cat I've ever seen. Unfortunately, her personality stinks. She pretends to hate all affection, will hiss and bite if you pet her. And then when you stop she follows you and begs for more attention. I've only heard her purr a handful of times, and it's usually followed with hissing and biting. Thankfully she's food motivated unlike Roxy, so she's easy to passify when she gets in a mood.

I've got two sweet cats at the moment. One is a 10 year old tortie girl named Myra. She's very opinionated and vocal. She loves attention, but it has to be on her terms, not yours.

The other is a 3 year old orange and white tabby boy named Trevor. He's soooo loving and affectionate, but dumb as a brick. When he gets energetic, he has NO chill and will zoom around the house chaotically, crashing into everything.

I used to live with a grey tabby girl named Eleanor. She's still around and about 10 years old, but she lives with my parents now. She's pretty aloof and not very social, but I still love her lots.

I don't have a pet currently but I wanted to mention my girl. She was a golden retriever; I lost her last year and it's been rough. I miss her so much.

I do hope to be able to get a puppy again sometime, either another golden or a pomeranian.

I have a sweet little idiot purring on my lap right now. just watched her fall off of her cat tree about a minute prior. she's a calico that put all her points into Cute and somehow has negative values in Intelligence. her orange reigns supreme. I'm not entirely convinced she's actually a cat - she seems to have been designed by someone who has only ever seen a cat.

my fiance has a much more cat-like cat, although he insists it is actually a bat. I do not know what the criteria for that is to this day, after dating for nearly 4 years. she is a Countess, I believe. Latina. Catholic. very opinionated, rotund middle aged lady. she has far more patience with my moron than I imagined.

I'm a really big animal person and right now I only have 3 pets which is pretty low for me--two dogs and a kitten. Historically I have also had quite a few reptiles, invertebrates, etc. Maybe again one day. I would really looooooove a fish tank.

Sorry for you loss.

and

I've had fishes, had a Betta at one point named Dodger after the Artful Dodger from Oliver Twist. I kind of miss having a fish. I've considered reptiles but I've always been squeamish about having to feed insects or dead animals to a reptile so I've just never had one. I have had friends who have had ball pythons though, but eventually most had to give them away because the upkeep and how large they got was too much though.

When I was in undergrad, my sophomore year roommate hid a mouse in our dorm( we would take out her wheel and hide her cage in the closet during RA inspections) so that's another reason why I'm a bit squeamish about having to feed dead animals to a pet snake... I don't think I could stomach having to do that, even if they were already dead. The university dorms only allowed fish, and the tank had to be a max of like 5 gallons so... there wasn't much we could actually have pet wise anyway.

i don't currently PERSONALLY have a pet (had to have my cat Garlic put to sleep last year, it hurt a lot) (but i did make a pet to memorialize him), but our roommate has a cat that we more or less completely take care of, his name is Truck (short for Truck Shepherd, like the Monster Factory character) and he's a weird little man. he likes to lay funny, like this. he is small but dense. we adore him

I also have a void! But his is not complete, he has a cute white patch on his belly. Mine is a long hair void at that so he is the floofyness. He big as I am sure he's part Maine Coon. When he lays out he takes up 1.5 cushions. And that's not stretching, that's regular 😱 His front paws are about as big as my palms. I'm lucky he's such a lover and not spiteful. And fun fact I actually got to watch him be made 🤣 When that happened I told my friend uhhh you'll be having kittens and he raced outside to shoo the boy off his cat but too late lol When I met my Bynx the first time he was as big as my hand, the whole entire him at 4 weeks old. And he tried to play with the crystal necklace I wore. I put him back with his mom and he kept trying to get back to me. So I took him when he was old enough and he's been with me 3 years. Will be 4 this summer.

FINALLY GOT THE 15K WARDROBE DONE!!!!! Next up gutting and selling it.

I have two black cats right now! one is named Art, and I've had him almost his entire life. he was an abandoned three week old kitten, so I had to raise him myself. he's twelve years old now. and I have another cat named Commander Claw. my partner and I adopted her from the shelter a year ago. we choose her, because when we were visiting cats she wanted to be held the most, and would reach out with her paws to grab your face. winning strategy to get adopted.

I've also had a lot of other animals in the past, like rats, degus (different kind of rats), ferrets, lizards, cockroaches, etc.

Oops, sorry accidentally pinged the wrong person, XD.

Binx... When I was a kid, I remember wanting a black cat named Binx because of Hocus Pocus if I ended up with a boy cat.

Since my void is a girl cat, I ended up naming her Gretel after the Brothers Grimm fairy tale though. She's not completely white, she has some little white hairs interspersed throughout her coat, but they're pretty few. She is more or less pretty much completely white.. you have to be looking at her head on pretty close to see the little white hairs in her coat.

Also, awww!

I have two blonde derps (I think most people call the color 'apricot tabby;' they're an orange dilute) named Shima and Kiiro. They're brothers, and going on thirteen years old, but still play like kittens. They have serious orange cat energy and they are... not bright. Pretty sure they share one whole brain cell between them. They go bats for catnip and like to eat it AND rub on it, the weirdos, and get astoundingly violent when they're nipped up, it's quite amusing. They also LOVE to chase laser pointers. Like, one of them does what we call a "Hulk Hogan" (basically a flying tackle leap) onto the bed trying to catch the red dot. They also love toys. Never had cats that love toys the way these two do, but they have quite the collection of jingly balls and crocheted plush rats which they play with regularly. They also enjoy laying under blankets, insist that I have puzzle boxes and blankets in the floor for them to lay upon, and will shout at the household humans until they get what they want, be that food, water, laying in my lap, or someone to turn on a light and keep them company while they have a midnight snack. (No, I'm not kidding, they hate eating alone in the dark, I swear I need a night light just for my cats.) This is an old photo (about seven years ago), but here is a pic for cat tax!

I have two lovely kitties and a fish tank with a betta, two black khuli loaches, three yo-yo loaches, a pleco and two pictus catfish (sadly working on rehoming the catfish as they have started stressing the rest of the tank out after a year of being part of the community).
