Just feeling anxious about contacting a loan servicer after getting what felt like a vaguely threatening letter. I was a "second" late notice, but the thing is... they sent it to an address I haven't lived at for about 10 years now and they have not contacted me by any other means it seems, not email school/work/personal or otherwise, and no voicemails. According to my FSA account this particular loan is in the hands of my college (not said loan servicer) and is in repayment without an established plan, but when emailing the school, they said the loan servicer IS the one from the letter. Great ok.... but they have an outdated address when the college had my most up to date info for several years now? I wouldn't have even seen this letter had it not been for a neighbor that knew me all those years ago and remembered that I was in college.

The letter had this stuff about "if you don't contact us within x days of this notice we will charge you the cost of the loan + late fees + interest + collection costs + attorney fees." Plus, any googling on the matter of anyone in a similar situation they were telling the person "Well it's your fault for not keeping them up to date on your information". Gonna hopefully clear things up after work if I can get out at an early enough time and call. The stress is eating me since I've been paying all the other loans, this tiny one I wasn't aware wasn't in the mix with the other servicer I'm using WHOM CONTACTED ME FIRST. The college should have forwarded my info, right? If this one place has the correct info the other one should too, I would think.

I feel like I generally just need some reassurance if anyone else can agree this is kinda ridiculous and I'm not being negligent or something. Feel free to blow off some of your own steam here as well. I'll happily lend my 2 cents if you need it!

Edit: update for anyone who read this it turned out to generally be a non-issue, but I'm still pissed that they have the gall to be like "well you didn't update your information" when the school had my most up to date info AND I had no indication they were my loan servicer prior to this (Had not even heard of them). Also being given no communication about this because I was under the impression the first loan servicer that CONTACTED ME was the one that had all my loans. This other one was apparently just 1000$ of the 40K something I owe total. πŸ™„

Ah. glad your situation ended up not being too bad, though that does sound absolutely awful!

I just kinda want to scream into the void about people needing to mind their own business. Because hey, if you don’t know my life or my expenses or anything about me, you do not get to try to give me life or financial advice! And if I point out the hypocrisy of your statements, you don't get to be all offended and act like I'm the one who's wrong here. Ex: "Look for a cheaper apartment and then you can pay off your debt faster." "Hahaha...have you seen the prices going down? There are no cheaper places, I've been looking." "I'm aware of the housing crisis!" But are you? Or are you just trying to force your unwanted opinions and advice on someone who initally was just ranting (and not asking for advice AT ALL) about something related, but different.

I would think if you updated your information it would automatically be sent to you unless you didn't update your address to your local post office. But I am happy your issue wasn't too bad but yet it is annoying.

I don't have anything to rant for now. Since I've pretty much annoyed all my friends about my car lol

Stupid colleges are why I only have an Associate's right now because of A) stupid AIs and B) I have a math class to take, that isn't my strong suit, to pursue any higher degree and it's just because of the "well rounded student" bs. (Which is all fine and good but it'd pull my GPA down, make a joke out of my college career and otherwise, prove pointless to me but y'know.)

I found out that - after suffering with a bad tooth for most of the summer, had it fixed in September and the dentist hit the nerve SQUARE ON, which is STILL hurting today, which sparked "You might need a root canal" four times by four different "medical professionals" when I kept telling them that it wasn't related to the tooth because it was never centered around the tooth (there's nerves that bisect your chin and you can numb teeth via these nerves but they stop in the middle of your chin, it feels like Thor himself has come in to practice throwing Mjolnir around a bit on really bad days) - I broke a tooth this morning sometime because it wasn't there last night. I'm working to distract myself until the 5th but this is with the guy that I really liked to start with in September.

I could cry. Anyways, I'm glad your issue was a nonissue.
