Starting to get sick of Imgur with how broken the site is and how utterly impossible it is to grab the BBcode so I can insert images into the forums on subeta. Turns out the image link on the app and on the website are completely different and I cannot reengineer it from the app link at all. TBF I'm working around the firewall at my workplace but eh. Sometimes you wanna send a post on your lunch break or before you leave work and are still using their Wi-Fi.

Right now it isn't either of those times but that is neither here nor there.

Suggestions? Photobucket is apparently also blocked. Thankfully subeta itself is sufficiently obscure as to fly under the radar lol. Maybe there's something out there both secure AND obscure as to lay low and not be hit by the block list.

My favorite place to host images is Postimage; it's no frills and doesn't require an account or have any hoops to jump through to get an image's link. It's also not owned by any gross media giants, the ToS are short and don't have any shady phrases like some other hosting sites, and they don't collect much information, either - all of which are pretty important things to me. No clue if it will be obscure enough to bypass your workplace's filter, but I certainly don't know many people other than me that use it for hosting, so it might manage to slip past it.

Cool thanks for the suggestion. It SEEMS to work through my vpn (it flagged as unsecure or something vague) but I cant test yet since its telling me I cant upload due to maintenance. I'll wait a while and try again and post a silly test image here. Sometimes ya wanna just share pics on a forum site is that too much to ask :'(

Sucks that a lot of media sites make their "rules" in such a way that they hide the fact that they basically take ownership of your images and can use them as they please. I think reddits TOS has some wording to that effect that like if they want to they can use what you post or have a degree of control over images after posting. Ngl kinda gross of them.

You're welcome~ Weird that it flagged as unsecure, though, the worst things my blocking add-ons have listed for it are just Google ads, but maybe they have subpar encryption for uploading or something else I can't see at a glance. At any rate, I've not had any problems with it so far, and Firefox has never flagged it for anything hinky. And sorry about running into that maintenance snag, I didn't even know they were performing maintenance, whoops. ^^;

It really does suck the way so many media sites use convoluted legalese to hide things like that! I'm an adamant reader of terms for everything I use (games, sites, consoles; if there's a legally binding agreement, I read it in its entirety), don't want to accidentally sell my soul or something, and some sites/services have terms that make me really uncomfortable. (Like the few times I've run into terms that stated something along the lines of "we can decide to start charging you whenever we want with no warning and you'll have no choice but to pay," I noped out of whatever it was immediately.) I don't use Reddit, so I've never read their terms, but it wouldn't really surprise me to find terminology like that. It's possible that they're just referring to being able to change the data format or whatever so they can continue to display a thing when technologies change, but the probability of their having terms that allow them to alter/profit off of user content (in some manner other than just displaying it and reaping ad revenue) is also greater than zero, so...

Glad to see it works! Bit odd about the quality, I've not had any issue with that so far... Then again, I've only needed to host fairly small images in the first place, and most of them were PNGs, my preferred image file type since it's less loss-y, though it tends to result in larger files than JPEGs of similar size. Oh, but it does link out to a higher res version on Postimage! That's... kind of convenient, actually, since Subeta's image size restrictions are pretty small, I'll have to remember this for future use.

I just wanted to say, I am definitely going to be bookmarking catbox as an alternate hosting option, it looks pretty solid, and my quick skimming of their terms and privacy policy didn't turn up any immediate red flags. I like having other good options, just in case, haha~
