So I'm a brand new microbiologist and I just participated in an art form that's new for me. It's called agar art which uses microbiology culture techniques and microbes to make art. I made it as part of a contest (So if you like it and want to give it a like on instagram that would be most appreciated!)

Has anyone else done non-traditional art like this, perhaps in the field of science or just using elements of nature?

Commentary/feedback or even questions are welcome :>

Wow, that's beautiful! I'm always trying to think of new, more natural methods of block printing for myself like using wood bits from the wild for stamps, but so far haven't really done anything new or interesting there haha.

Oh! I love this! Do you have the names of the bacterial strains you used? Any plans for more pieces? Some kind of statement piece using bacteria taken from specific locations could be cool!

I wish this is the direction I went in college. Something like this or designing and making anatomical drawings for textbooks as I took a big liking to speed drawing models and dissections in my invertebrate zoology lab. Not that I COULDNT pursue the latter, but I wouldn't know where to begin and have poor footing and much less time to make the art without much of a portfolio as I tend to do more cartoonish stuff for fun.
