Just as you're about to reach for the doorknob, you hear the heavy footsteps again, only now, they're outside your door.

You make the wise, cautious, cowardly decision: It is better to keep the door locked and stay inside. With the announcement of the serial killer on the loose, and the thoughts of the horror movies you've been watching all evening on your mind, you turn the knife over in your hands nervously as you speak to your sister.

"Let's try to get some sleep. I don't think anyone making that kind of sound outside is doing anything but trying to scare us, but there's no point making it easier for them. The door is locked, if we leave them outside they'll go away. Right?"

Your sister looks skeptical, you think, though it's difficult to tell through that skull face makeup she has on. "All right," she says. "But I'm not sleepy. I'll sit up and read for a while."

You both look toward the window as a bright light flickers behind it, throwing an ominous shadow into the house even through the curtain.

"You want to read?" You think about the romance you have stuffed under your mattress, "What would you read? I don't see a book in your hands." Your sister rolls her eyes toward the door, but it's silent, now. She smiles, "You've got those syrupy stories, right? We could read one aloud!" Your face turns a bright red, "Aloud? Are you nuts?" "No one would want to walk in on that, right?" Her skeleton make-up is looking less stupid than it was a minute ago. You had to agree that reading a romance novel aloud would probably keep anyone away. You sigh, "Alright, but let's keep it light, okay?" You see that she's chosen "Delirium's Mistress" - a romance about the personification of madness and his beloved bride. Well, that's certainly a choice for Halloween! But it's not really a romance novel, not exactly. And it's not light.

You look at your other options. Oh, this might be good. It has a hunky gentleman on the cover with his arms around a buxom brunette. Wait, though, does he have a unibrow? Does that mean what you think it means?!

You thought it was a unibrow at first but is he actually a Unicorn? Is that a scary well in this book? What kind of books is your sister reading? But really you are kind of intrigued. The uniman looks pretty neat on the inside...even if the well looks scary. Maybe a different book would be better though. How could that be romance? Outfit Not Found

u choose another book. the title was "10 ways to win a monster's heart". on the cover u see a pair of eyes. to ur surprise, u felt the book shake and see slime covering ur hands.

Outfit Not Found You creep cautiously into the hall, carrying a bat with you. Just in case. And there is a figure at the top of the stares, tall and imposing, teeth gleaming in the dark. You swing without thinking, but a manicured hand with long, sharp nails reaches up and catches the bat without flinching.

"Hey, you must be Lottie's grandkid. She told me about you," the figure says, and you blink a few times, trying to make sense of things. Turns out, there really is a lady in black who shows up at midnight. Turns out, it's just the vampire who lives in the attic and pays your grandma rent. You invite the vampire to watch horror movies with you, and she joins you as you put in "Hausu."

"This one's my favorite," she says happily, munching on some chocolate covered ants.

Your grandma sure hid a lot from you. You here the door bell ring once your vampire friend has joined you. A werewolf stands at the door yawning. I was told we were watching movies today? If you had not been through so much it might have scared you but this just adds to the intrigue. A werewolf a vampire what could be next? Her name is Madiline and she turns into a dog most of the time but she typically would have tea with grandma on Halloween night.

Thump... Thump... You hear the footsteps getting closer and closer to your room. In the next moment, the footsteps stopped on the other side of the door. There was a moment of silence and then you heard a knock on the door. Terrified, you mumbled "Who's there?" The door slowly opened and an old witch appeared. The witch said, "Good evening young lady... I am in the middle of creating an eternal youth potion and I just need one more ingredient to complete it..." You asked, "Wh-What do you need?" The witch replied, "I need... YOUR LIFE!"

You haven't turned on the lights yet as you don't want to alert whatever is causing the noise. You hear some giggling and laughter. At first you thought it was just coming from the door, but then you realize it was actually coming from all directions. You looked around your room but it was too dark to see anything. You suddenly felt a weight on your head, then on your shoulders, then something grabbing onto your legs. You hear a whisper next to your ear, "Big sister, let's play hide and seek."

You hear the footsteps getting louder. You are scared and nervous but you hold your knife tightly and bravely walk towards the door. You open the door and see a mass number of zombies walking towards you. ...Not exactly what you were expecting. You closed the door, turned around and whispered to yourself, "This is just a dream... Fortunately, since you've just become a mushroom, you have extra life to give! You generously allow the witch to remove the fungal life from you to add to her potion, returning you to normal.

Or, you think now, normal isn't the right word, looking at the "friendly" vampire and werewolf visitors on either side of you, at the witch rushing into your kitchen to work on her potionmaking. What is the best way to phrase it now? Returning you to, you decide, yourself.
