Incase you’re unaware, Twitter has been rebranded as X. With Elon Musk as the new owner, there has been plenty of controversial changes to the site. From verification errors, to forcing people to pay extra, to limiting the amount of tweets you can view. It’s not a surprise for some of you, considering Elon’s obsession with the letter X, like he would name everything X, from Model X, Space X, to even his own son after X. Also the fact that the logo he chose was an X from an existing font.

He's extremely stupid to buy a company and then get rid of its easily recognizable name. And, yeah, the logo is lazy.

I hate it so much! It got me to finally sign up for a few other sites that I'm liking much better, specifically Pillowfort, I'm really enjoying that one. People there seem really nice.

My sibling had commented about changes to the site. Then today I randomly found specifically about the name as I was looking up the character Townes Linderman from Impulse, which I finally got to watching (Townes is portrayed by my favourite actor, Daniel Maslany, who also portrays my favourite character, Llewellyn Watts, from the show Murdoch Mysteries). I clicked on a link to where someone had made a tweet about the character and saw a big X there. It took me a moment to process that it was the name of the site. I used to be on Twitter years ago, but it got too overwhelming. I'm just on here, Neopets and YouTube.

I honestly wouldn't still be on Twitter but it's a good platform to help promote my work so...but if there's a better platform someday then I'll most likely leave Twitter in the dust.

I get that. I mean to say social media in general got too overwhelming for me because of my autism, but I like that it is helpful for people.

Is Pillowfort active these days? I heard about people moving to that site after some changes Tumblr made a few years back, but back then nobody was really using it in droves so it was hard to stay active. It was a shame because I really liked it, it just didn't have enough of a userbase to make it worth it at the time.

Pillowfort turned out not to be as active as I want so I'm using Bluesky and Tumblr more now to be honest. :(

I heard on a podcast recently that if you create a business and you're lucky enough to have that business turn into a verb every person uses, you've got it made forever. Think how many people say "google" instead of "search." Elon was an absolute fool to throw away the branding of Twitter, along with the verbiage of "tweeting." Using the words post and repost just makes me feel like it's just any blog site now, with even less character than Tumblr. I feel so sure there's got to be a new social media platform coming down the pipe. I just really don't want it to be tied to Elon or Meta.

Yeah, Elon deciding to discard the branding of Twitter was more than stupid.

I've written on Twitter for years now and I'm watching people who I saw run small businesses and build networks there panic. Part of why I'm back on the Subeta forums again is that everything that's happened with Twitter has made me long for the old bbcode forums of my youth.

Tbh, I left the day that Twitter was dumb enough to run the site, live, in dev mode. Which, if you don't know, can be a huge security risk. Plus, I've seen people banned for life from Twitter for ultimately less offensive things than a frothing-at-the-mouth spraypainted tangerine inciting an insurrection.

JREF is dead and I'd rather not go back there, and a lot of them that I remember were also (rather unfortunately) Harry Potter fanfiction roleplay forums. I don't remember the rest, but I appreciate the style all the same.

sigh Elon and his shenanigans make me hope we're in a simulation..
