Can someone explain why would someone want their CWs to be restricted? I don't really get it.

The password-locking only drives potential buyers away, and thus make the artists lose CSC as no one will be buying their art. It sucks, since some of the CWs look really amazing but are restricted.

with CWs, once they are on the site, the user who uploaded them can do with them what they wish! A lot of people slot and restrict under the passwords so that people who have slotted can get their item. There are also CW exclusives to specific groups, or friends, or for specific holidays, it's a whole economy on its own! if you see a CW you like that is locked beneath a password, if it says in their shop that you can comment to get an invitation, then you comment them.

A lot of really nice CWs are unlimited, too!

any number of reasons behind it really

personal item only meant for them, could be a ping group exclusive(meaning only members of said group are able to get it), cant think of any others offhand, but yeah

Note! Artist don't make csc profits. Users commission an artist to make them a cw (or the artist is the releaser) and then a submission fee is paid to the site and the artist may or may not request a copy of the submission. After that point, the item is up to the releaser on how they want to distribute it to the site. Some artists like communicating to their buyers and others don't. It's one thing I like about the community, it's flexible towards what the user wants to do.

Wait... so the CSC earnings don't go to the actual artist that did the actual work, but rather to the publisher account?

They already got paid for the commission in addition to the free copy when the item is accepted on site? Why would the csc earnings go to them?

Oh yeah, fair point. Do you know how much do those commissions usually go for? I'd like to have a go on having my own CW.

Commission prices vary from item to item and from artist to artist. It would be quite a task to list them all here. I recommend checking threads in Customwear, and the directory, for artists. Then you can check their TOS. Joining Discord servers is very helpful as well.

some CW releasers draw their own art, but more often, yes, they commission it from someone else. in addition to paying the artist, the releaser also pays to have the item added to the site, and earns back that CSC through the sale of the item.

does it make more sense to you know that you understand that the artists sell the designs to the releasers and they can basically do whatever they want with the design they paid actual money for?

imagine someone buying a pack of bubblegum. you‘ll see them open the package, hear it rattle in their pocket and you might ask for one. the person might actually decide to share with you, but they might as well just not cause they wanna keep the bubblegum to themselves and their friends. sure sucks, but can you force them to share if they don’t want to? surely wallmart that sold the bubblegum in the first place doesn‘t care who gets a share either but would love to offer you a package of your own?

Another reason is the high resellers. Since slot for items is a typical flat rate some of these people will ask to slot for say a cost of 700. They then usually go on to immediately sell it for MORE as soon as the last available copy gets claimed. Some releasers and artists don't like this so they code lock it to choose who they'll sell to. Since even have a clause to NEVER resell for above the slot price you paid or they'll blacklist you from buying from them again. And then there's the reselling of things in general that is also a interesting market in and of itself. I encourage the use of the directory when buying "2nd hand" CWs to make sure it's worth what's asked on prices.

FINALLY GOT THE 15K WARDROBE DONE!!!!! Next up gutting and selling it.

As I see you seem to really know what you're talking about, may I also jump in and ask a couple of q? Like what if the artist and releaser are the same person? And what happens if the person if gone from Subeta, where do the profits go then? And please be patient with me, I am really dense :D

Hey there! I'm not the biggest releaser there is but I know a thing or two maybe and will try to answer as clearly as possible. do feel free to ask as much as you want tho c:

If artist and releaser are identical, then the releaser has drawn it themselves and it has never been anybody else's property to begin with so they should therefore be allowed to do with it as they please. they drew it so they can decide whether they wanna sell the idea or release it themselves and whom they want to sell to or nah. maybe it's something personal they wanna keep to themselves and maybe it's something they wanna see other people wearing too. some items you release to earn csc, and some you just want for yourself. it do be like that. ^^

as to the profits, they go to the releaser at any rate. if the releaser leaves sub but doesnt retire/warehouse the items, you can keep buying them. in this case the releaser will keep earning csc even if they havent logged in and will find that amount of csc added to their account.

to be honest i cant tell for sure what happens if you self-freeze. if u let the admins unfreeze your acc you might get all the csc you would have earned while you're gone or they might just be gone.
