The Recycle Beast is ready to add to his hoard, and is eager for new stuff; he will have more categories including rarity 170 and 195 in his asks. We're also testing something; he will be changing what he asks for to twice a day, EDIT more specifically twice in a twenty-four hour period with at least an hour buffer between, at random times. We are hoping this gives people in other time zones a chance to turn their items in at more convenient intervals, and to entice more Subetans to visit Riverside's resident trash hoarder in general despite the smell.
Updates shortly on shop clearing and Potion Lottery when the coding is done for them!

OMG That's amazing! lol Told you it wasn't fair before! XD little happy dance
This is a really awesome idea! Feels a lot fairer, even though it will be harder for those of us who pounce at rollover, I am glad it will equal the playing field!
I had a problem not long ago with the recycle beast resetting earlier than it was supposed to. I had just bought a ton of items to recycle when he switched over, so I bought the items for nothing... I think a change at noon and midnight would be reasonable, but I don't trust it if it'll be changing randomly.

Thank you, this feels so much fairer.
Oooh, a change that actually intrigues me and may actually have me checking in? I like it.

I think we needed this a long time ago, but super awesome to have now.
Being on the Subeta timezone, every now and then I would be up late to see what the prices were before and after the item change that the RB wanted and was annoyed that I couldn't be one of those that was buying up all the cheap items at that time.
The random times TOTALLY helps those that specifically wait for that changeover to buy up all the RB items to resell at inflated prices. VERY happy to see this!

Neat, I’m tentatively going for the 35,000 RBP achievement so this’ll be fun!
Oh, that's amazing about the random times! It's one of the reasons why I've never bothered previously!!

This is a feature, not a bug. I think this change will also encourage people to not run and buy up as many as possible without checking back :)

, I think you meant rarity 165 and 195, aka Genetechs and Free Gifts. It always included Challenger Loot, didn't it? And *up to twice a day? So it might not change during the day at all and it might do it twice? So you would have one to three batches per 24 hour time span? Also I think Haswari was referring to when it reset at a wrong time due to the cron issue. Now it's a feature where you have to check, but I assume this wasn't implemented a few days ago?
And I guess as a seller, I'll have to check throughout the day to make sure I'm not selling the wrong items. But, more opportunity to sell items, I guess. ^^ I wonder if a forum group should be set up so people can ping when it resets randomly, like for the token shop....
I like the two changes a day, but I'm not a fan of the randomization. Making recycling more accessible to people in different timezones makes perfect sense to me, but couldn't this be achieved by having changeovers at noon as well as midnight? Or if that seems inadequate, staggering them throughout the week? Or if you absolutely must randomize, at least displaying the time of the next changeover?
The Recycle Beast items changing without notice was, for me, the only frustrating part of the recent cron issues. I don't see how this is "convenient" regardless of how you choose to participate in recycling.
If you prefer restocking or loot-farming recyclables (as I do), that means collecting them throughout the day—and if you don't know when the changeover will be, you may end up with some quite large piles of items that, oops, you can't turn in anymore (as I did last week). Keith says "this is a feature", but heading back to the Recycling Center after every item you get isn't fun, so what does the feature do?
If you prefer buying recyclables from user shops, you need to hop on at changeover to get the best prices—and if you don't know when it will be, the logical thing to do is constantly refresh the Recycling Center to catch it. This is more difficult and less fun than simply scheduling your visit, so won't it concentrate participation among the fewer players more dedicated to the Beast?
If you prefer hoarding recycling-eligible items in your vault until they come up, you're better off, but you still have a little bit of both problems—you may now need to check the Recycling Center repeatedly to avoid letting your collection go to waste.
Seriously, what's the reasoning behind this?
Yay! Recycle Beast gets to not be interested in my mountains of hoarded things, twice :D
Oh, good catch on the rarities! Yes.
It is twice a day, more specifically twice in a twenty-four hour period with at least an hour buffer between. At the most extreme it can reset itself twice within like 61 minutes for the day, but that is going be rare.
This is new coding and set-up, it was not in place before about 3:15pm today. I think you're right that was referring to the old cron, when it was doing it at 7pm. There might be some chance of that happening at times now, but we are hoping it's only an occasional issue. It is also something we can change if that's a persistent problem! We're testing this configuration but can do something different down the line if that works out better.
A ping group would make perfect sense for the feature, we certainly won't complain if someone sets one up!

One of the patterns with a static reset time, and this would be the same with two of them, ends up being that cheaper items in peoples' shops get pretty quickly picked up close to reset time. After that, until next reset, people tend to forget about visiting or turning stuff in or even deliberately avoid it after seeing what they would have wanted to junk picked off so quickly.
The reasoning behind this being a feature, not a bug, is that it hopefully entices people to check in with the Recycle Beast themselves more often and hopefully get a nice surprise of 'hey, I do have that in my vault!' We're also hoping that it will work better for different schedules; someone who is asleep at midnight and working at noon is going to have trouble with static times, but maybe this way they'll instead catch the RB's 7am cravings or a 5:37pm turnover. And then next day someone who works second shift will be able to get the 2pm one, or a third shifter will be really happy to turn in all their stuff at 4:19am. Over time, it gives lots of different people more chances to interact with the feature.
We can change this over time, tracking items turned in and overall trend. We just want to spread out the opportunity for now and see how people take to it. Something like displaying the time of the next changeover is a good suggestion and we can see how practical that is, as well.

Is there any way to code the page so that if a wishlist item is requested, it actually shows the WL square?
I have a couple hundred items that I've gotten piles of over the months and it occurred to me that it would be nice to add all of them to a categorized wishlist so that I know
a. I've already hoarded some of this, no need to buy more, and b. If it showed up on the recycle beast page and was highlighted I could immediately know I had some on hand (vs. clicking search account for every single item)
