Hello all! As the username suggests, my name is Mary!

It's been about 4 years since I took my biggest hiatus, and I'm determined to get back into the Subeta world! I tried coming back here and there, but things didn't go as planned.

I went on hiatus in 2018 for a lot of reasons. The major reason was my career was ramping up. I was climbing the corporate ladder and attempting to make more money to make a better life for myself and my family. This focus on work drew a lot of my attention away from the game and my time online in general. My industry is one that provides essential services, so we didn't experience any COVID lockdowns, and we transitioned to remote work. In fact, our industry exploded, and the company I was working for did not staff my department accordingly (and I took on responsibilities that weren't part of my original duties). I burnt out. I switched to a competitor about 8 months ago, which allowed me to reduce my responsibilities, and I feel lighter and happier. Hoping to keep that momentum going.

To reintroduce myself to the community, here's a little about the current "me":

• I love board games and TTRPGs! Dungeons & Dragons and Monster of the Week are my current poison.
• My love for D&D also spawned a large collection of polyhedral dice. Probably about 20% of them are some shade of yellow.
• I like video games, but consider myself a more casual gamer. A few of my favorites are Pokemon, Stardew Valley, Fire Emblem, and Skyrim.
• I love to garden! I am currently up to my ears in produce from my backyard.
• My Harry Potter house is Hufflepuff.
• My favorite Crayola crayon colors are Granny Smith Apple and Goldenrod.

Cleric is my favorite class! I tend to either play as a Human or an Elf/Half-Elf. The group I play with has a little bit of campaign ADD (so we can take turns as DM) so I have a lot of characters and try to play new things. I think the only classes I haven't really played as are Paladin and Bard. They're ones I have a harder time wrapping my head around. What do you like to play as?

Haha, my group does the same thing! We haven't met in nearly a month due to scheduling conflicts, however.

I don't really have a favorite race, but I do really enjoy tieflings.

Incidentally, I love bards! And I have a love for warlocks too, they're just so... versatile (aside from Eldritch Blast spamming. I admit that's a bit of a crutch for me). But at this point I've played nearly every class. Except for wizard; something about them just intimidates me.

Welcome back Mary! I've been an occasional hiatus user myself. This account is only 3 or so years old, but I originally started on Subeta at the age of 11 back in, I believe, 2004? What a time it's been since then!

I feel you on the burning out/essential worker business. I began working from home back in October 2020, and since then have made a career swap to a much more leisurely paced work from home job. We have our busy seasons (I work in landscaping) but for the most part, I get to attend to my hobbies and my family much better than at my former position (which was in advanced tech support for a major US carrier).

Needless to say, I can feel your stress as far as climbing the ladder and providing for your family. So glad we both found ourselves back here!
