My phone was laying on my desk, not in use or even being touched, suddenly my screen lights up telling me that there's no SIM card - no service.

No SIM card Your phone needs a SIM card to work. You may not have inserted your SIM card yet or it may be inserted incorrectly. Make sure your SIM card is inserted as shown below.
My phone is samsung android LG K51 and carrier is verizon.
No system updates recently, only thing that has happened is last night I updated google chrome in the play store and cleared my history and cache and everything. No problems last night. This morning I got a weird text claiming to have been from verizon, just telling me about upgrading to a google pixel or something and had a link which I didn't click on. I read the text then deleted it so I can't remember what it said or the number it was from. A few hours later my phone suddenly does this.
I got my phone in 2020 and have never taken out the SIM card before this. I took it out (turning the phone off first) and cleaned it with alcohol but it didn't help. Still says no SIM card. I've put on airplane mode and cleared cache a few times with no go either. I've not dropped my phone recently, or ever, and it has a case that completely covers where the sim card is so I don't know how it would be damaged or even dirty. I cannot stress how out of the blue this is.
Why did this happen out of no where and is there a way I can fix it without losing everything?
Because of this I have no service and will not be able to receive or send texts until this gets resolved...
That's really weird, I've never seen that happen. I also have a Samsung from Verizon and I'd just take it to the Verizon store and be like "here, fix this" if it was me lol I hope you can get it resolved soon and don't lose anything important!
Oh dang, I wonder what caused it? We use Samsung too, but through AT&T and I've never seen that happen before!

Tech ran a diagnostic on my phone and said it was fine and the SIM card probably just "went bad"? The verizon store had a replacement for free and transferred it today, nothing seems missing and I'm able to use calls/texts now. Still very weird that happened for the first time so suddenly, I hope to never see that again lol.
That's great, glad it's working again! And that they did it for free.
Also commendable that you attempted fixing it yourself first, I always try that too, but it sounded like more of a "replace" sort of situation. Sometimes parts just fail for no apparent reason.
