There should really be a general forum where we can request name changes to regular site items....
I'm bringing up this item and because not only is it regarding to the dark humor of su**ide in such a light manner, it's probably not a well aged name to be casually accepting on the site. I won't argue on whether people consider it a slur or not anymore but if the site is going to accept items with such heavy connotation, it opens the door for argument to let other items slide that contain harmful language. And no, this item is not referring to Kamikaze's literal definition of 'divine wind' so lets not play with that assumption. It's clearly referring to the action of a kamikaze.
My suggestion would be to possibly use 'Reckless' or something similar to the action of the item.
I could support a name change for the lizard, because I don't find suicide bombing something to joke about, but not so much for the worm. The worm is fine.
Worm used for fishing die. That's a thing, and since that's an item gotten from fishing, it's fine that it's a lot more feisty than others concerning its grim fate.
It's all about the context, I say.
I would respectfully argue that the word in general shouldn't be allowed for any item on site. Regardless of context there should be no need to use the word to refer to the action of death/dying. There are other words you can playfully insert for dark humor that doesn't include heavy history reminders. But that's just me! Thank you for the input!
.
I've voiced my opinions, and while I'm not at ease with the Kamikaze Komodo given that suicide bombings are still very much a thing, namely in the Middle East and in some places in Africa, I have no problems with the worm.
I'm not okay with removing words that aren't slurs. Especially not complete blanket bans. Sometimes, context does matter., and this is a perfect example of that kind of situation.
We have a literal lizard bomb, which is a little iffy, but the idea of a feisty worm being "BRING IT, FISH. I AM GOING TO WORM VALHALLA AND Y'ALL CANNOT STOP ME" is very much different.
I agree to disagree but as always I am thankful for your input. It is a different outlook then my own that I can respect on where the argument is from.
I definitely agree on the komodo since it's.... it just seems like a cute fireworks-themed lizard minion? It feels out of place and weird when it feels more like a goofy video game enemy.
The worm is more... hmm. It's a joke about worms inevitably dying when you use them for hooks, this one's just a little more ambitious about its fate. I feel like the word in question is very interchangeable with other things, though, so if someone finds a way to word it better, then sure.
I don't know if I would call the word in question a slur, necessarily, more just... well, it's a word for a very unpleasant and historically-loaded act. Which still could warrant action, depending on what people think upon giving them a second look. So I do agree that these could afford to be renamed with little issue.
Lynch(ing) isn't a direct slur but it's probably got no place being smacked casually on Subeta items, especially any that could even slightly align with the racially charged US history.
